Hey guys, I'm new at DatingGold and now to GFY and this is kinda my area of expertise so I figured I can set the record straight on some things.
One of the main reasons why WoW is so addicting is that it's the never-ending pursuit of the brass ring; every time you get a good piece of armor or weapon, there is something else in the game that is slightly better. You can liken it to a PC; today you can buy the best, top of the line Graphics card, but a month or two later a better one will be introduced.
Don't be mistaken, WoW is in fact a very social game; it requires it to get any decent gear. In order to get the best stuff in the game, you need to raid dungeons with a group of people; each of which has very specific tasks they must preform in order to succeed. This requires a lot of communication between players and good teamwork.
I played WoW almost exclusively for about 18 months (I stopped about 2 years ago) so I understand the attraction to the game; it's almost the facebook of video games. Believe it or not, one of the best things you can do to help him reduce the times he plays the game is to talk to him about the game. Take a genuine interest in learning about the game because then he might take an interest in talking to you about the game rather than playing the game; gamers love talking about games almost as much as playing them.
Another thing you can do is suggest another game for him to play. There is a new MMO out called Runes of Magic that is essentially a WoW clone but doesn't demand as much time to make progress. Plus, that game is free to play where as WoW requires a montly fee; the prospect of saving $13 a month will entice him.
How I eventually quit the game is that I reached a point where I knew that 95% of the people that play the game would never reach, and I was satisfied with that. Sooo, if you get to know a lot about the game and can identify when he reaches a point where he is satisfied with his progress, you might be able to convince him to quit. I would NOT suggest simply pulling the plug; like any other addiction you could face a severe backlash.
Hope I was helpful.

holy moly did not expect so many replys to this ..lol
He did this in his own time over the weekend, He pays for it himself not us
He keeps trying to get me to join WOW but I dont have time to play it so it would be a waste of money and its also not my thing TBH ..unless I could make money from it of course
I have seen him do this kind of thing before He went mad on those RC Petrol Cars and spent a shit load of money on it ,was always out racing the the thing, three months down the line he was bored with it and sold it and lost money on it.
But anyway I could not sit infront of a computer for 24 hours and play a game and if he does do it again I am gonna pull the plug .
For the people who did not realise how old I was ..I have posted pics on GFY of my self last year I think ...maybe I look young
And what is the fascination with WOW I just dont get it ? anyway each to ones own ..lolComment

Why don't you just buy his character all the way to the top (you know how you can buy those credits for whatever) and he'll get bored and maybe go outside and do something else. I have no idea how expensive this route is, btw.email: [email protected]Comment

I know they buy and sell accounts but dont know how they do thatComment

If he is going overboard with WoW log into your router admin and ban his computer and block his internet access, then play innocent

I feel your pain.
I'm a recovering Warcraft addict myself. I don't know why that thing is so addictive... To most people it can be very boring. Grinding is boring. But somehow, its extremely addictive. Even now I still get the jones to reactivate my level 60 gnome rogue (Ack! someone kill me! lolz)Comment

I used to be a hardcore gamer when I was his age too (got paid to play on a team and go to tournaments). The only thing you can do as a parent is pull the internet connection, but as soon as its back on you bet your ass he'll be playin again.Last edited by Meeper; 02-04-2010, 03:55 PM.Nick "Meeper" Amoroso
