its simple: those of us who use it to keep in touch with our friends and family in germany, new York, California, Portland, all over the world use it daily to keep in touch with people who we would otherwise lose contact with. I sit here in new Orleans and talk to my family in Germany every day and enjoy connecting with friends and family I never see because they live on the other side of globe. They take pics of their child and I see them in seconds, facebook is great for what it is.

yeah because you can share videos over the phone (landlines) so easily. LOL
If you cannot see the difference between a social media website and talking on the phone to family in germany everyday (the cost would be astronomical) than its no wonder you dont see to understand what the sites are for. (sharing videos commenting on them with family members, sharing pictures of our baby and having family in France comment on our baby).... etc...
Has nothing to do with being private, if you arenot close to your family and have no desire for contact sure avoid it, but many of us use this FREE service everyday and just because you have no use for it and dont seek communication with your lolved ones doesnt change the fact the service is both useful and negates the use of calling family overseas everday.

Just saying for those of us who get up every morning and interact with friends overseas and family back in California, and friends in Portland and New York its great. I have close friends who are in Cali, Portland, and New York and I talk to them all throughout the day via my blackberry and FB, its great. In fact, ive kept more in touch with them because I simply cannot call everyone everyday, my phone bill would be a grand LOL
A few of my friends are in bands, and one is a flight attendant, she is flying around the US all day and we joke with each other all day long via FB, nothing can beat that. Sure sending an old snail mail works, but not quite like posting quick one liners at her and interacting with them throughout the day... I interact with people all over the US all day, including clients LOL
its simply not even comparable, sure email is cool too, but nothing compared to a friend in Germany talking about OKTOBERFEST and sharing pics in realtime and whole family can comment on them etc...
anyway, I have FB open right now taling to friends in two countries and multiple states, love it!

hehe to add, we had facebook in the hospital room when we had our recent baby and were sharing photos of the baby as soon as she was born with people overseas! Relatives began commenting and yes, some called me cellphone, but many just wanted to see the baby and know we were ok without having to call overseas.
it was awesome!
