so nexttime you give to charity and think you are helping out the world so you can go on with your little life. why not do some research and see where that money actually goes?

The whole concept of aid for 3rd world countries is very discouraging to me. Because, for the most part, it is all going to make a few select people very rich, the bottomfeeders are not going to benefit for shit from most of the organized aid.

Do I have the means to pick up a backpack, go over there and help instead of playing the remote keyboard warrior? Yes, I do. But do I wish to end up with a machete splitting my skull? Not so much.

Not as bad. In the favelas there is order within the favela. Yes, the people will kill you, but there is order on the inside. There are also schools inside, medicine, churches and everything else they need to live within.
