Hot swapping IDE drive... is this a bad idea?

To get around rebooting, and since I only need to use it for a second anyway... To get the OS to see the drive I just disabled and re-enabled the IDE controller...... is that okay ???

It works but I don't advise it, I used to do it with one of those removable drive drawers that go in the cd space. When I did it it just added the drive like I put in a usb stick. If the OS is still on t it will prolly need to boot from one of them.

If its on usb its ok, but if its on the board = very bad idea. With a sata drive it will work just dandy but an IDE will fuckup
