Who is Haiti's mobile provider? Nothing short of amazing.

All of that destruction and they had mobile use within an hour of the quake.

I lose my signal when I go into my bathroom or into a parking garagw. They get a 7 quake, the entire country is reduced to rocks, and they are on Twitter and Facebook, while trapped under buildings. Incredible.

    1) Social networking to the rescue! Who'd a thunk it?

    2) WTF? I want what they have.

The cell phones and internet access are for the few rich people there that keep all the others poor.

On a side note I saw where you could text haiti to some number and $10 would go to the red cross and you would get billed for it on your telephone. Verizon stepped up and said they would turn the money over immediately instead of waiting some 60 or 90 days when they actually received the money from the customer. I thought that was a huge risk for them and a commendable gesture. Other providers were trying to follow their example.

It's all GSM, I bet the central office was the safest place to be. Carrier CO's are build to withstand a 8.0 quakes as cat 5 hurricanes.

Many 3rd world countries have better wireless networks than many modern countries. Most 3rd world countries do not have any hardwired network and very poor infrastructure, so they compensate with extensive wireless networks...

I have Sprint and although many people have negative opinions about them, I have never had a problem thankfully.
