Wouldn't REACH be a better figure to base your assumptions on? Rank values will shift around as sites with similar traffic compete for a group of spots. Reach should stay more constant.

Nah not really, I have compared with other people just based on alexa rank and we got similar results:

          Alexa rank: 1,400,000 = 600 uniques day
          Alexa rank: 500,000 = 1,500 uniques day
          Alexa rank: 80,000 = ???

            I have a site that does approx 30k uniques per day that has a rank of 10749 / 9872 / 9808 / 10406 (yesterday/7 day/1 month/3 month)

            The reach is 0.016 / 0.0167 / 0.0161 / 0.0148

            Another site that does approx 10k uniques per day has a rank of (n/a) / 280987 / 212494 / 156944

            Reach of (n/a) / 0.00076 / 0.00092 / 0.00116

So I guess based on this extremely limited data you could conclude that a rank of 80,000 means you're somewhere between 10k and 30k uniques/day.

I hope you're not using this data to decide whether to buy a site.

              Ok, so my 10k site has a rank of 156k - 280k
I checked a 7k site and it has a rank of 11 million (a huge dip in rank for a relatively small difference in traffic)
A 5k site has a rank of 4 million (less traffic, higher rank?)

You get the idea? It's a very vague indication at best.

This site may interest you too... www.statbrain.com

For my 30k site it guesses 45,651
For my 10k site it guesses 7,907
For my 7k site it guesses 137 (lol)
For my 5k site it guesses 352

If you were able to get real data for a large number of sites and compare them with estimated data you might find that when averaged they're sort of right... but at the individual site level you'll see a lot of these significant fluctuations; the estimates are dead WRONG.

The whole point of copying out these figures is to show you that 11 million is NOT 25 hits a day. Don't rely on guesstimated data.

I have a site with 600 uniques a day and it's around 1,350,000 so that seems pretty accurate for that number at least.

Alexa has been acting weird lately.

One of my blogs that was getting 300 uniques a day used to be ranked about 580k for many months. Traffic has doubled, yet the ranking has gone to 1.3 million.

One of my tubes at 10k uniques a day every day hovers at about 175k. Interestingly, a few days when my traffic on that site dipped to 6k to 8k from some trade shakeups, my Alexa improved and went down to like 145k on the 7 day rank.

I only use Alexa to make some extremely broad assumptions.
