    This business sucks...

    Dirty D thread, and all the others. I remember when everyone was rockin'. Lambos....suites in Vegas.....
    Now it's all rip offs and crying the freeking blues. I gotta say this business sucks. Thank God some of us still make money or this board would crash and burn....

                      There is software, hosting, emails, marketing, SEO.

                      The reason this business is in the rough is because there are no rules, no body that regulate the sites. Most other industries have these, like builders.
                      We have nothing to stop us from doing what we want, and that's not a good thing.

                                                                      man thats all such a huge waste of time and money. every theft prevention tactic (that takes hundreds of hours to invent and implement) is quickly followed by a way to crack it. i know of software or code to crack everything on your list.

I understand not all niches find these 100% free sites and some pay for new and premium content, but how does the industry turn the table on these 100% free sites without forcing everyone to practically give all content for free, just to get one sale? Figure it out yes ,easier payment options??? , longer trial periods???, no sound unless payment??? theres got to be something to drive free into no longer the best option and I hope to find it but its gonna take alot of people to jump on the train

                                                                                                              i've thought for years that porn sites are priced way too high. but pricing caters to studio egos (and those lambo payments mentioned earlier) so you can't touch them.

                                                                                                              meanwhile i pay $5.95 a month to be a member of tomgreen.com and will let that rebill forever, even tho i log in maybe every few months - and his live shows are free. the subscription is affordable and i'm a fan. in a world of free TV he found a way to get people to pay him to produce an entertaining tv show from his living room. he found a profitable future for broadcast entertainment while the major studios take heavy losses.

                                                                                                              i dont have the answers but i'm optimistic. every hurdle this industry has faced has been overcome. it will be interesting to see who rises above the bitching and whining and becomes the next generation of industry leaders. right now there is no leaders, only crying executives and site owners. even the guys i thought were leaders (Vivid, Hustler, Penthouse) are all bitching about piracy rather than focusing forward.

                                                                                                              just like the world pre-Obama, this industry needs leadership too.

                                                                                                                                          I know several guys who have done exactly that to protect their content and guess what, their sales have gone UP because you can hardly find their content ANYWHERE for free. They put in the work and it's paid off, while most of you say it will never work and guys will crack it, blah, blah, and do nothing at all. I've seen it with my own eyes, it's working.

                                                                                                                                          Sure, someone will make something to crack what they have done. Then they have to fix that and so on and so forth. That is evolution. Some of the software companies are doing it now and it's becoming harder and harder to steal their shit. Good for them, it's working. Then someone will figure it out and they will fix that in the next release. That's just the nature of the beast.

                                                                                                                                          Or, you do nothing and you'll be out of business sooner or later, while those who do protect their content will still be around. It's not about pointing fingers or saying this person is stupid, it's about you deciding how long you're going to be in this business. If it's for the long run, you had better find a way to somewhat protect your content. Even if it's not perfect, it's a start that WILL evolve into something else and sooner or later you will regain control of your content.

                                                                                                                                              There is still money to be made in the DVD market for those who know how to totally maximize their content (broadcast as one example). It's not like it was 8 years ago, or even 2 years ago, but there is still PROFIT to be made, and that's all that matters. Profit is profit, be it $5000 or $500, I'm going to take it.

                                                                                                                                              With that said, once you're content goes to DVD you can kiss any idea of protecting it for the web good-bye. It will be ripped and passed around the net within 2 days. So you need to choose what your long term goal is. I personally stopped releasing DVDs, not because of the money, I was still making a good profit, but because I'm moving into a protected content system for all my new sites and to release a DVD of the same content would be counter productive for my long term goals. Yea, it sucks to not have that extra money, but I believe long term I'm making the right decision. Only time will tell.

                                                                                                                                                                              Many niche providers, who know their niche and shoot quality content for their members will always be able to sell. Quality is niche specific. It has nothing to do with the HD or any of that horse shit.

                                                                                                                                                                              The point being, you have the have content that buyers want. You then have to deliver it in a method they prefer, want, and will pay for. Hence tube pay sites, mobile, and clip stores among many other ways evolving.

                                                                                                                                                                              Most I have seen are still working the old pay site models, tours, and dangling carrot. A member can't see the member's area and content. When they sign up, they are insulted with these 50-100 scenes pay sites that update never or once a week/month. NO ONE is going to pay $30.00 a month for that shit any more.

                                                                                                                                                                              You need to have good niche content and update it. Members today want more interaction, and better delivery method. The tube pay site is that vehicle. Here is a prime example....

                                                                                                                                                                              1. They can see the whole members area before they buy.
                                                                                                                                                                              2. They can sample pieces of the clips. Even if 30 seconds.
                                                                                                                                                                              3. They can stream it. They can download it.
                                                                                                                                                                              4. Multiple formats. iPod, WMV, MP4, mobile.
                                                                                                                                                                              5. They can easily see you are updating or not.

                                                                                                                                                                              So if you have some decent content, and doing your updates, the content sells itself.
