It's not about the storyline, many movies, TV shows etc have the same basic story line...

It's about the production value and technology and things that have never been done before in those departments... it's cutting edge and there's nothing that competes with the visual effects, etc

Alien was a great fucking movie. Sometimes I wish there were laws against making sequels, but since that will never happen I suppose sequels like Aliens are the next best thing.

What I find most interesting is what movies really click with the public. Some things you can just tell will do well. For example the last Transformers movies. The first one did big business so you knew the second one would do well. There are often movies that you see the trailer for that look good and the reviews are positive and they don't do well and other movies that don't look so good and yet they catch on and make a bunch of money. It seems like there is no way of knowing just what will be a hit and what won't be.

You could probably take any movie and say that all the parts are similar to other movies.

Watched District 9 yesterday, movie is OK at best. Had a unique angle and an alright plot. 7/10 at most.

Maybe James Cameron is not into being artistic? Maybe he is just a businessman who wants to make the big bucks and hell did he succeed.
