The "Mr. Bean" television show was brilliant but the movies sucked. In the show he never spoke (almost never) but when he went Hollywood the studios wanted a speaking character and totally destroyed the movies.

I agree, the movie wasn't even really about Mr. Bean, the established character. It was some new version of Mr. Bean.
