Yemen, will you please take the spotlight

Yemen was not named as part of the "Axis of Evil".

Yemen was not named as part of "Beyond the Axis of Evil".

Yemen was not named as part of the "Outposts of Tyranny".

But then again, why would it? It's not popped up on that many radars. It did have some terrorist activities on its land in the past. But then again, Britain had that. And Spain. Many others too, so it's just another country that's had some terrorists active within its borders.

It's not even linked to State terrorism, nor State-sponsored terrorism (unlike the US and the UK).

Yet, because it has some internal instability problems with tribal rebellions and stuff, Clinton decides to speak out and tell the "Yemeni government had to take measures to restore stability or risk losing Western support."

The US closed its embassy in Yemen, the UK did the same on the same day. The new US puppet-wannabe, France has just done the same.

"It's time for the international community to make it clear to Yemen that there are expectations and conditions on our continuing support for the government so that they can take actions which will have a better chance to provide that peace and stability to the people of Yemen and the region,"
    Mrs Clinton said.

Is this real international peace and well-being being promoted or is it Obama trying to flex some muscles?

    Whatever it is, it stinks.

    Again.

On the conservative forums, they are criticizing Obama for not staying and showing more backbone. They think this is leading to the destruction of US sovereignty. Of course, you know that if he didn't close the embassy and there was a terrorist attack, they would blame him for NOT closing it. Obama simply will never be able to win in the eyes of the far right, which is why he should just do what Bill Maher so eloquently said on REAL TIME -- he should just govern and forget about trying to appease the idiots who will never be appeased. We won; you lost. Go FUCK yourselves!

And by 'root of the problem' you mean not interfering with independent nations and worry about our own shit?

            I totally agree with that.

Seems like I remember a few years ago, some radicals in an inflatable boat loaded with explosives blew a hole in the USS Cole warship in a Yemen port and killed 17 US sailors.

I think that should have put them on a watch list or something, even if it did happen before 9/11.

Oh yeah... it was by the same bunch of guys that flew planes into the World Trade Center just 11 months later.

American FBI agents sent to Yemen to investigate the bombing in the days following the blast worked in an extremely hostile environment. They were met at the airport by Yemen Special forces "each soldier pointing an AK-47 at the plane." Speakers in the Yemeni parliament "calling for jihad against America," were broadcast on local television each night. After some delay, Yemenis produced a CCTV video from a harborside security camera, but with the crucial moment of the explosion deleted. "There were so many perceived threats that the agents often slept in their clothes and with their weapons at their sides." At one point, the hotel where the agents stayed "was surrounded with men in traditional dress, some in jeeps, all carrying guns." Finally the agents abandoned their hotel to stay at a Navy vessel in the Bay of Aden, but even that was not safe. After being granted "permission from the Yemeni government to fly back to shore," their helicopter "was painted by an SA-7 missile" and "had to take evasive maneuvers".
I guess everybody forgot about that and forgot to add Yemen to the list of bad guys.

It´s funny to hear how powerful countries talk about a little peace of land 95% full of sand. Idiots! Have nothing better to do so they talk about this...

Not too long ago, some Al Qaeda Brits loaded with explosives blew up lots of people on the public transport system in London.

Similarly, an Al Qaeda Brit tried to blow up an airliner laden with people on its way to the US.

I think that should have put the UK on a watch list or something.
