Interesting. I'm not sure how Norton can be called a bad product though. I have used it for years with no issues. However, if AVG is equally good (and free!), then I really should give it a chance.
I use to love avg had all my family on it, then I tried avast and fell out of love with avg very fast! It isn't a resource hog like avg and it catches way more things.
AVG has been very good for me but I have also heard good things recently about AVAST. In the hosting world I know at least two dozen System Admins around the country that originally directed me to AVG.

AVG has gone way downhill over the last couple years.. Your asking for trouble with that free version or even the paid version, Get Trend Micro Pro....its worth the money

AVG was okay... I'm trying out Comodo right now. I like their firewall protection program, so I decided to give their antivirus a try. So far so good...
Lets not even mention the most fucked up yet default "anti virus" software out there... Norton. Norton is the biggest fucking pile of shit joke out there.
I used to be an AVG user unitl I got a virus
AVG couldnt find it so I installed Avast. It founded and deleted it completely. Now I am a happy Avast user !
I used to recommend Kaspersky and NOD32 (both paid) a lot, but lately I've read a lot of good press for Microsoft Security Essentials and apparently it does a pretty good job and it's free.
Have to agree with Juicy I have tried all of them, AVG is ok for someone who only uses their PC as a hobby. Nod32 is for the average PC user. Norton and McAfee absolute rubbish waste of good money and time. Kaspersky Internet Security is great for someone who does a lot of work on the net.
