Global warming + ice caps melting = higher sea levels? BULLSHIT!

Not trying to spark a debate or post meaningless global warming bullshit on here but there is one key thing these so called "scientists" seem to be forgetting with regards to ice caps and sea levels rising that makes me laugh. You may have noticed this aswell.

Basic science teaches you that when ice melts in water the water level will drop.

And if 7/10ths of an ice bergs mass is in fact under water. if that was to melt it would result in lower sea levels not higher.

Simple test, fill a glass with water and 2 ice cubes mark the water level.

Wait for them to melt and it will be lower level than before.

Ice caps are displacing water making sea levels what they are today.

If they were to go, the area they are displacing currently would become water in it's normal form.

If people think ice melting = more water = higher water levels. I would like to know where these people got their education.

Agreed?

What about all the ice that is above the sea level?

That might be true if the ice caps were not covering a land mass.

if 70% is below and 30% above it will not matter.

Good point, I'm just trying to work this out.

If the ice and icebergs melt that could still displace any ice that is formed ontop of land it wouldn't matter.

How much of it is actually formed on land? and how much is pure ice?

Dude, if you know that the polar ice caps are covering land masses... then you can use your own math to understand how sea levels would rise if they melt.

(btw... I don't support the whole "man made global warming scare" - just pointing out the flaw in what you seem to perceive as "logic" )

When I said above sea level that includes the ice on land as well.

Here are some great global warming predictions

http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/a...g_predictions/

Quote:
THE seas will rise up to 100m by 2100, claims ABC Science Show host Robyn Williams. Six metres, suggests Al Gore. So let?s take in ?climate refugees? from low-lying Tuvalu, says federal Labor. And ban coastal development, says the Brumby Government.

In fact, while the seas have slowly risen since the last ice age, before man got gassy, they?ve stopped rising for the last two, according to data from the Jason-1 satellite.

?There is no evidence for accelerated sea-level rises,? the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute declared last month.

Ok here's what I'm saying.

Do they know how much ice is in the water as pure ice / icebergs?

Ice on land melting will obviously raise sea levels because it has to go somewhere. What I'm saying is can the other ice metling counteract it?

Or not?

Has anyone looked into the theory of sunspots affecting global temperatures? There is a ongoing debate wether sunspots are they key to desciphering global warming.
Look up sunspots on wikipedia!

not so much the sunspots but lack of them

the problem with 'global warming' isn't the regular fluctuations of nature

it's the amount of greenhouse gases we have and if everything is 'able to right itself' with the added pressure

I realise now I've worded the original post totally wrong.

Getting ice caps confused with icebergs made entirely of ice is what I meant to say. I.E. large chunks of ice melt = lower sea levels. Didn't take into account ice above land etc.

Nevermind, it's friday!

it was interesting the article that Aric posted.. i didn't realize water expanded to such a degree when it was increasing in temperature that it would have an impact on sea level

Nice theory. I would agree with you, but the government can't scare people with your theory.

The government needs to scare you where they make you think, if you dont buy carbon credits, let them tax the shit out of you, that the world will end as we know it.

Global warming is a serious money making scam used to make people willingly pay more taxes without them knowing it. Big business gets taxed or forced to buy carbon credits and big business passes that costs down to the consumers.

Fuck that useless prick Al Gore!! I hate when self righteous dicks like Gore feel the need to tell us how we should live our lives, when he cant even control his own life.

Here are two stories that define who this guy really is. One is the allegations of Gore sexually assaulting a message therapist and the second is about Gore getting divorced from his wife.

If the 1st story is not true, why is Tipper Gore leaving Al Gore?? You can pull cover ups when it comes to the public press, but you cant cover that shit up at home.

There are now refugees from Island Nations - displaced by the rising seas caused by man-made global warming... But don't worry GFY - most of you aren't the sciency types. Just pound your keys and your puds and stayed tuned to FOX News for all your important info.

Will look into it, might even experiment myself a little later.

I've got salt water and fresh water within about 500 feet of me

And in a few months time when it's -10/-20 here and there is icebergs in the river. The water level will be higher.

So the oceans rise a bit more?

What's the one thing we seem to be running out of and can't get enough of? Water. Counties are going to war with each other in the US over water rights. Central California farms can't get enough water because LA sucks it all down. Someone needs to figure out how to change salt water to drinking water in massive amounts, and then just pump it out of the ocean to where ever we need it.

Problem solved.

They already have them, they're called Desalination Plants. But how do you propose inland areas get water that currently depend on mountain snowpack? The Rocky Mountains supply water to most of the Southwest through the Colorado river, what do you think will happen if there is no longer snow in those mountains?

There was a documentary produced on how global warming is a scam invented so that they can collect tax revenue from carbon credits.

I highly recommend watching it if you haven't seen it already.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...70191369613647

Science is about keeping an open mind and examining the evidence. When you have Al Gore saying, "There is no debate. The debate is closed", it sounds like bullshit to me. There are plenty of people saying anthropogenic (man-made) global warming is a scam.

Yes,

Then how much rain will be created, how much will turn to snow in other areas and become more ice elsewhere.

Is the world following it's axis as accurately as people like to think.

Does my bum look big in this? etc.

the list goes on

not to mention that land ice is primarily fresh water. fresh water ice melting in salt water = rise in water level.
