Anyone shooting on Sony HDR-FX7 or HDR-FX1000?

There is a $1000 difference between them, wondering if it's worth the extra $ to use the footage on the net only.

Anyone use either of these?

I bought the FX7 two months ago. So far so good. The FX7 doesn't have the XLR inputs for external mic. I also heard the FX1000 is better for low lighting situations. But if you ask me, the FX7 is great for shooting HDV content for the net.

Just my .02

Shooting for net only then it's a waste of money. Even if you want the XLR you can add it for considerably less than a grand.

White balance on most cameras suck. That's why they have a manual WB mode.

You don't want either of these. the on board mic picks up every little sound (snap, crackle, pop) every time you move or adjust your hand positioning. The v1u is better.

you could pick up the cheapest camera on the market and 95% of people would not be able to tell a difference in the video quality from a camera that is several thousand dollars more

Both cameras have cmos chips which do not work as well as the 3 chip in low lighting. If your going to use the camera in low lighting, go for the better camera if you can afford the extra few hundred quid as its got the better lens which I would have thought would sort out any distortion from low lighting???

always try get the best if you can afford it.

That being said, I'll make you a good deal on an FX1

All depends on the person operating it and the lighting. If you have no idea what you're doing you're not gonna get better footage out of a prosumer cam than a consumer cam. But for an experienced shooter consumer cams are very limited.

Aaron,
I already have a small hand held sony HD cam, but I want something that has zebra pattern. Using auto exposure doesn't seem to do the trick. I prefer manual settings.

Suggestions?
