IT is official. The Blazers should have pick Kevin Durant.

Greg Oden breaks his knee cap tonight and is probably done for the rest of season. He was looking pretty good this season until tonight. It is clear now that he just can't stay healthy. While Oden has struggled just to get into games Durant has become a star. If they had Durant and Roy on the same team, that would be a hell of combo.

i feel bad for him - even though he's got millions it's gotta be incredibly disheartening for him.

It's early in his careers. You never know what next year will bring! Don't write Oden off just yet.

You can't blame the Blazers, though, as any team in their right mind would have picked Oden. Dominant big men just don't come around much anymore, and he did have a chance to become one if he was able to stay healthy. Time will tell I guess, but I hope this time in rehab he works on his conditioning some more...

He's done. So many injuries in such a short period of time tell you there is something very wrong either with his training or his body. Even if he recovers to 100% which is never a given the chances of another major injury are large.

For me Durant was a no brainer, Oden was a gamble. Big men just don't pan out most of the time.

It's kinda like when they picked Sam Bowie over Jordan in 84. You have to draft the best possible player not just draft a center because you need a center. BTW I'm not comparing Jordan to Durant. Just a similar type of a draft decision by the teams.

I have to agree. Oden was injury prone in college and was hurt when they drafted him. He is big and strong and could be dominate, but even before the draft I felt like the guy just wouldn't pan out. Dominate big men, as Profits said are very hard to find, so much so that most NBA teams don't really even have a true center on their squad, but I thought Oden was a big gamble. Durant was a shooter and shooters can become scorers in the NBA and don't need as much luck and development.

Of course it is all hindsight now, but I think the signs were there that he may not pan out. Maybe he still will. Maybe he can get healthy and still big a good player, I just think he keeps getting hurt now and as you get older and your body takes more of a pounding you become more prone to injury, not less.
