New US crackdown on Internet gambling postponed for 6 months

I don't fucking get it... The US is in recession and needs extra tax revenues. Instead of banning online gambling, they should allow it and tax it. The new rules look extra ROUGH.

I think they should legalize bank robbery and just tax it.

            Logical error: false analogy http://onegoodmove.org/fallacy/falsean.htm

            Applied to your response, Lloyd:
Bank robbery has elements that are not present in gambling. Bank robbery involves threats of force/threats. It also involves taking money that is not yours through force of arms not chance or skill. The robbed party did not consent to a set of rules where they have a chance of getting money from the robbers as well.

None of that would be necessary if it was legalized.

Still doesn't answer this: The robbed party did not consent to a set of rules where they have a chance of getting money from the robbers as well.

The "new rules" were passed over 3 years ago. The article simply talks about the delay being in enforcing them.

I agree with you though - even with new rules, US players will find a way. When they do, that money will still be flowing out of the country since obviously no site would dare base themselves out of the US after what's happened to entities like BetOnSports. Was interesting - the domains they operated on dropped sometime last year, probably out of their control - I ended up snagging one of them, MVPGaming.com - MVPPoker.com went for several thou).

Gambling is between consenting adults. Bank robbery is not. Not sure how you can make the comparision. Like comparing boxing to murder.

                            Loto-Québec to offer online poker

Loto-Québec is planning to offer its clients online poker and sports betting beginning next summer the provincial lottery corporation's president Alain Cousineau said in a speech to the Montreal Board of Trade on Tuesday.

He said Loto-Quebec also plans to collaborate with the lottery corporations in five other provinces that already offer online services. They are British Columbia and the four Atlantic provinces.

Studies show that in 2009, online gambling represents a worldwide market of $25.3 billion ? a 300 per cent increase since 2004.

In Canada, there's been an annual growth of 30 per cent since 2003, and analysts expect online gambling transactions to surpass $1 billion a year by 2012.

In Quebec in 2009, actual illegal transactions related to internet gambling have been evaluated at $80 million.

Loto-Quebec has already asked the province to make the necessary regulatory changes to allow Quebec to enter the online gambling market.

Revenues from casinos, lotteries and video lottery terminals in Quebec have levelled off for several years.

As soon as they come to an agreement on all the related backdeals in the U.S. government and everyone is happy with the piece they'll be getting, it'll become legalized.
