I don't get this go mobile porn craze right now

Why offer a mobile version of your members area when the # of mobile porn viewers is so small right now. I understand that it is a growing market however in a year or two they will have a new standard and you will have to re-encode all the videos again.

Seems a big $$$ and time undertaking to re-encode videos in mobile device version....

What am I missing..

People on smart phones spend money, almost nothing is free, and they all purchased with a credit card. Zero competition in the global scale of things. And finally, another set-it and forget-it income stream.

If you don't want to re-encode your stuff, just promote someone else. One way or another, if you aren't monetizing Mobile traffic, even before your own site is up, you're leaving money on the table.

Hit up TopBucks and give'em a shot on the REVSHARE program... a few minutes of your time is extra money in your bank.

I was suprised at the amount of mobile traffic I actully get on my sites. I had no idea until I put a redirect script in the .htaccess and looked at my traffic stats for the mobile site im redirecting mobile traffic to

0.05% of our paysite members surf through a mobile phone when in a PC members area. Many have already encoded their movies in H264 and such which make it mobile ready. It's always something new with content - from DRM, to flash format, etc.

And like TheDoc said, if you aren't ready for mobile, promote someone who is. The good thing about promoting mobile is to be able to test your traffic, see how much you have, see what they like - hardcore, softcore, layouts, etc. Also a good indicator of how much $$ you'd make!

I'll wait until mobile devices catch up with current websites.....Eventually, one will be able to do everything on a mobile device that they can do on a laptop....And the producer won't have to re-encode anything. Hell, I can already watch youtube videos on my ipod touch....And if I bothered to jailbreak it and get rid of the safari browser, I could watch every other video on it ..

There really isnt any significant cost involved with re-encoding your existing movie content to mobile all you have to do is use a program like Sorenson Squeeze and setup a batch job.

3 days later go back to the PC and you have a few thousand mobile movies encoded ready for upload.

First of all there is a massive amount of $$$ to be made with Mobile even now
Second, re encoding small files like that is 50-100 videos pr day pr server....FAST

If you wait you will have 100 times the competition, and a lot less revenue, not to talk about how much harder it will be to get the traffic

If you wait, you are missing out on sales NOW. If you wait, like said after you, you will find yourself fighting with the competition and like many WMs, once they put a link up - trying to get them to change that to another sponsor is not an easy task.

Trust me, I had hell trying to get people to promote our VOD when AEBN had been around for years.

It's more of a matter of taking the lead rather than follow the train. By being one of the first ones, you will have a head start on your competition and will gain knowledge that will come in handy once mobile becomes more mainstream. If you wait too long then you will need to get over the learning curve before you can profit...

From what I've seen mobile porn is very small. None of my friends and any people that I talked to in my life have ever mentioned going to porn sites on their mobile phones.

All this indicates is that you should probably not rely on direct personal observations and/or anecdotal evidence as a means of evaluating a market, or the performance of a product within a given market.

For example, I don't personally know anybody (seriously, not a single soul that I'm aware of), who went to see that Twilight movie over the weekend, and yet something tells me that I shouldn't therefor conclude that the movie didn't do well in terms of ticket sales over that same period of time....
