I have 7 installed on one of the brand new macbooks. The network doesn't work and you cannot access the internet or local/shared files. Makes it pretty useless.

yes it does and sure you can...

you may have overthought the install because it's windows and you forgot you were on a mac.. but everything works perfect here

have you tried using bootcamp? They should have all the drivers you need.

just got a new macbook pro two months back and i love it but im having the same issue with the internet in the windows7 install.. what are you using dirtydanza?

Works absolutely perfectly on my Macbook Air. Even the multi touch pad, keyboard back light adjustment etc. Apple have gone ALL OUT to offer windows drivers for all their new hardware.

Just run bootcamp assistant, decide how much of your HDD you want windows to have, then next step is whack in the windows 7 DVD! Job done.

After windows is installed - run the bootcamp windows application (found on the MacOS install DVD) which will install all your drivers.

I was planning to do the same, buy a 17" Mac Book Pro and install Windows 7, I read somewhere that it does work but that bootcamp doesn't officially support yet Windows 7 and that it should be officially supported by the end of the year

Can you not share the HDD and share the files between the windows and mac, as you toggle between them?

I love the Mac hardware and I've never had a 17" laptop with the kind of battery life I've seen on this thing. Unfortunately after a couple of months working with OS X I'm just not digging it. I think loading Windows 7 on the 17" MBP just may create the perfect computing machine!

I'm running it on Parallels, and didn't bother installing parallels tools yet which are supposed to fix some of the issues. Windows 7 is still experimental for apple hardware installations. I'm sure bootcamp would work much better than parallels obviously, but I have no reason to run bootcamp. I have XP, 2 Vistas, and 7 all installed on Parallels for testing purposes. No other reason to ever need or use a windows installation.

I use both and like parallels better. Parallels is faster, but only slightly, so much so it might not be noticeable. You can google some "vs" comparisons. Most end up with the result "use which ever one you like more".
