I met him and Sid Vicious at the Virgin Records office in London, November 1977. I was in a band that was signed with Virgin and they had brought us over to do a UK tour. The Sex Pistols had just signed with Virgin (after being kicked off their first two labels) and we were hanging out in the Virgin offices waiting to get paid when Malcolm and Sid walked in. We were introduced and as soon as they found out we were American, they started talking in this cockney accent where I couldn't understand a single word. But our tour manager (a Brit) told me they were taking the piss out of us pretty bad. Sid was a drugged-out, spotty mess but Malcolm seemed like a real businessman.
I was never a big Sex Pistols fan but I loved "Buffalo Girls". Not only was he a punk pioneer, but a rap visionary as well. RIP.Comment

That wasn't all - I met and hung out a bit with Richard Bransen, who owned Virgin records, and attended a party on his houseboat. In 1977, he was a complete nobody in the States (I don't know about in the UK) and none of us knew who he was. But he was a very nice bloke and saw to it that us yanks had a great time the 6 weeks we were in the UK. The biggest name acts he had on Virgin at that time were Mike Oldfield (the Tubular Bells guy) and XTC. We attended their album release party in London while we were there.
The band I was in was called The Glen Phillips band (maybe some of you in Atlanta know the name - he is still around). Unfortunately, after the tour, we went back home to Atlanta, the album we made on Virgin's dime bombed and we were dropped from the contract. And dammit, Richard (or Bransey as I liked to call him) didn't keep in touch.
