XP vs Windows7 Starter - Netbooks - Which is Better?

Anybody have experience with netbooks with either XP or Windows 7 starter? Opinions on which is the better of the two?

It will be needed for a university student, so I expect she'll need to run office software (open office), power point presentations and whatever else a student needs that I cant think of. Will a netbook be enough for everyday student stuff? She has a main desktop at home so its just for actual at school stuff. I'm looking at an HP with an 11.6 inch screen, hoping that will make for a bigger keyboard and of course be easier to read than the smaller ones while still being nice and portable. Anyways, any opinions appreciated. |

I've tested XP and Windows 7 on a dual core Amd laptop with 2 Gb ram. W7 runs fast and flawless. XP runs very fast, but has some issues.

I'm using XP now because I have this 10 min system restore backup and there's all the software I need for work. But I'll move every software to W7 when I have time. I'd recommend you to choose Windows 7. |

If you don't mind spending slightly more, I'd suggest getting the Acer AS1410-2285 for $399.

It has a dual core 1.2ghz processor, 2gb ram, 160gb HD, 11.6" screen, and Windows 7. http://www.amazon.com/Acer-AS1410-22...8116530&sr=8-3 I don't have it yet, but from what I read, it's much faster than the Atom powered netbooks. |

I've got an Asus EE$E 1000 HA I bought 6 months ago with XP on it. I upgraded it to Windows 7 the other day and it runs sweet! Asus has all the updated drivers on its site for anyone wanting to move to Win 7. It's small, but that's what it is. Battery life is 4-5 hours easy. You either have a netbook or a laptop, they are definitely two different animals.
