eh? not sure where you are coming from with this but the maya calendar is a long count calendar which ends in 2012, there is no maya calendar cycle for time after that.

The Mayans have 3 calendars, or created 3. The 365 day, solar year. The 260 ritual calendar and the 5128 world time calendar. IE: one cycle or long count calendar, for the cycle.

Why didn't they create a day for the 366th day of the year? Because the cycle reset itself.

I fucking love doomsday movies. Can't wait to check it out.

yes, the long count cycle is comprised of the 2 minor calendars. all i am saying is the maya never created the next long count calendar.

either way, 2012 is simply the end of the long count cycle. the fact the maya never wrote/laid out the next long count cycle does not mean they thought 2012 to be the end of the world

They wouldn't create the next cycle, it's the same as the first. Like year over year. They only created one 365 year calendar - and copied it, they didn't create 5000+ unique calendars.

I don't think 2012 is the end of the world... I don't think the Mayans thought it was the end of the world, but simply a cycle that reset. The calendars tracked cycles, nothing more - nothing less.

i think you are missing my point, which is that all the hoopla about 2012 is due to the fact the mayans didn't create/carve out/write/draw the next cycle's calendar. there are no artifacts of the next cycle's calendar like there are of the current one.

if they had made one, there would be no 2012 doomsday, no 2012 movie, no 2012 anything.

so i can understand people buying into the fiction. :thumbsup

Sad, but look at us... the mass majority follow books written by men 1000's of years ago, that get taken as fact today, blind facts at that.

indeed. we do need a shake-up eh! :1orglaugh

Well... looking at the bright side... it couldn't be worse than Emmerich's last movie, "10,000 BC"... but then again that just means it might be a piece of shit but knowing that it is going to be a piece of shit might make avoiding stepping into it possible.

Does anyone else get the uncanny feeling he must be trying to use up cutting room floor special effects footage from his other crappy apocolypse flick "Day After Tomorrow"?

It's one of those movies that has to be seen in a cinema just to get these impressive effects.

Or in a home cinema. :)

Damn ... I just watch the Trailer ... now this is a good movie ... I need to watch it for sure

Les Grossman 11-12-2009 08:41 PM

Jesus, it's a movie. Either you watch movies and are entertained, or you don't.

I'd hate to hang around some of you. Too serious.

sorry for the revive of this old thread, took a long time, yesterday I saw the movie. Was ok, entertaining a little bit funny and up to 80% 3D animated CGI stuff. At first I thought: what, the armageddon had the same cause like the movie "Knowing" but without these aliens it was a little bit more realistic.. a little bit :) . Overall the 2,5 hours run down very fast, the movie had some impressive visual and acoustic effects and so I would say it was worth the 5€.

Dianne22 12-02-2009 02:49 PM

havent seen it yet

jtrade 12-02-2009 02:56 PM
