The guy clicks on a sponsor and fucks off to the sponsor site.... whats wrong with that?
Alot of the sites I make have the 70% bounce rate only smaller super niche sites have a lower bounce becuase that stuff is hard to find and it gets the surfer interested....

What if they're not clicking, but just leaving your site? Sure, a high bounce rate would be good if all people "bouncing" were actually clicking a sponsor link, but chances are the actual click % is low compared to the ones actually leaving. (back button or whatever)

If you've got your game face on, all sponsor and external links pop up in a blank page. That way the user is still on your site, has a chance to view the content they're interested in, and less chances the user will accidentally close your site window.
BTW pretty good bounce rate, try mixing in flvs that play on page and good unique blog posts to keep the visitor captivated.

So how you gonna test if they bouncing away from site or to sponsor - probably page sponsor campaign hits divided by number of page unique hits.......... usually a CTR is about 25% so the 75% bounce is correct.

I wish I had a CTR of 25% on my ads, I'd be making 4 times as much
I would say thats a pretty bad bouncerate, I got around 38% bounce, but I do add blanks on all sponsor links in hope to get more clicks on the site.
The thing is, even tho you send your visitor directly to a sponsor gallery or something, he might look at it fast and close it down, if you dont use blank links that means he is not on your site anymore also.
Just my 2 cents.
38% bounce.
4 pages per visit
03:50 average per user. ( Yes I dont have full length videos on my site ) but the content is always 100% handwritten and unique.
your avatar alone have contributed to an exponential rise in bounce rates on gfy of late

anything below 40 percent is considered shitty. It really doesn't matter how people try and justify a high bounce rate... It still blows ass. A high bounce rate generally indicates that site entrance pages aren't relevant to your visitors, so they get frustrated and leave. The more compelling your landing pages, the more visitors will stay on your site and convert.
A bounce occurs when a web site visitor only views a single page on a website, that is, the visitor leaves a site without visiting any other pages before a specified session-timeout occurs.
So how the fuck is 70 out of people leaving one page of a site good?!?
Isn't at all directed towards you Wolfy, and I am not being mean, just sayin... Just keep tweaking your GUI, man

well, for one example if you have an MFA type site and you are pulling a high ctr in a well paying niche, I could call 70% of people leaving one page of a site good... you could take the same site and improve your user experience so much that your bounce rate goes to 10% and your ctr drops to nearly nothing and I don't see how that would be good

True if they are clicking on ads with affiliate id's, but not if they are just closing the window and moving on. I would subtract the sponsor clicks from the unique visitors and divide the bounce rate from that to see what the exit traffic percentage was and go from there.

ok, I agree, but I am assuming the people here that are talking and comparing simple bounce rate numbers are looking at it from the same perspective google is, aren't they? so in that case, a high bounce rate is fine with me if the site is producing revenue

i would assume he is using analytics. perhaps, the perfect electronic flytraps of traffic are incorporating the intricate percentages of bounce, absolute page views, time on site, SE percentages, vs. referrers, pr of referrers, backlinks... blah. Kinda like years of playing a rubiks cube and hoping in the end that all the sides will eventually match.
