A little harsh and misleading. Of course you can't compare Pattaya (or any big city) to a remote Issaan village but Pattaya IS changing. I am not disputing that in the past it only attracted the worst kind of people, and whilst it does still have a big bar scene, hookers and trannies etc, it also has many 5 star resorts and accomodations, quality restaurants and up market shopping malls.No, you are going to Pattaya. You will not see anything as clean as the photos posted here. Pattaya is a low class shit hole for prostitutes, pimps, drug addicts, drunks, pornographers, Russians, low class dirty Arabs, and old retired men (usually British) who enjoy golf. Pattaya is the furthest thing from "the real Thailand" there is. You have a better chance of visiting Cambodia and being closer to the real Thailand, than you do in Pattaya.
The Thai government and the local land owners realise that families and up market tourists not only spend more money but also cause less trouble and headache than the "sex tourist".Comment

Those who dislike Pattaya should simply go elsewhere instead of trying to change it. Without the whores WHY GO TO PATTAYA in the first place? The beaches? No. The scenery? No. Any foreigner who settles in/near Pattaya came for whores. Then they find that "special" one, become miserable and want to change things to make everyone else miserable. Minus the new shopping mall there, all the others can hardly stay in business. The Avenue mall hardly has any stores left once you get past the restaurants in the front.
You can not turn a whore into a housewife, and Pattaya is a whore. It is what it is.

This never use to happen. Pattaya was a dirty, intimidating city few people knew about.
Shopping centers, fast foods, mega clubs, cheap flights have all made Pattaya much more accessible, it is fast becoming just a sleazy Ibiza.
I agree that you can't turn a whore into a housewife but you can turn her in a slutty party girl, unfortunately this is what Pattaya is becoming.
