Are all American skiers groomed on baby slopes?
OK, so we all agree that grading pistes by colours is good...
green - something to walk on, push with poles etc. Generally anything horizontal. blue - requires some sort of control, but can be mastered by any 5 yr old in ski school in under 5 days red - generally requires a good level of ski and control or else you'll end up in the trees black - requires a very good level of ski and control or else you'll end up in hospital. So why do American ski slopes subdivide the black into black diamond and double black diamond (or something like that?) I've skied both, and imo, a European red is an American black diamond and European black is an American double diamond black thingy. Anyone that has skied both cannot in all honesty say that isn't true.... This is dangerous, because all American's that come to Europe saying "I ski black"? are only going to end up in hospital. I'll never forget it was in Boulder about 7 yrs ago, I was skiing with a load of US buddies and they all were dead set on skiing the wednesday "off piste". The entire runup, I was stoked. Fresh snow every night, an entire off-piste trip in the powder.... Ahem... spent the entire day in and out of trees, 5 metres from a nicely groomed slope. And drinking on piste??? Why not? If I want to down a "vin chaud" at 10am in the morning at 3000m, why the fuck not in the US? Skiing is dangerous, whether it's a green on a cup of tea or a double b;ack with a bottle of single malt behind you. Why dummy things up/down for people? Give the people the colours and the alcohol and let them have their own fun, death or not.... ![]()
