                                              Well he only backs into the shelves, which collapse sideways, so they don't fall on top of him. Forklifts also have a safety cage equivalent to Nascar. I've personally seen a key of beer fall on one from 40 feet up, and it just bounced off.

                                              No harm done.

                                                                                                          then, just after the hit, you can see a couple small fires near the rear of it before the boxes fall.

                                                                                                                  Usually there is supposed to be protective corners around shelving like that so that kind of accident doesn't happen. Obviously it was the dudes fault but I have a feeling they didn't have the proper safety precautions set up.

                                                                                                                                  Diesel forklifts will smoke like that upon start up and acceleration. The fire you saw looks like reflections from the work lights mounted on the lift.

                                                                                                                                  I'd be willing to bet those shelves were overloaded.
