Get a Subway Rocket Mesa/Boogie amp. THEY ARE FUCING LOUD.
And have massive gain that a marshal could never touch. They just have a 10 inch 50 watt speaker, but it alone was enough to drown out my ex bandmates 4x12 with tube 100x2 power amp. The rocket is an all tube preamp and all tube power amp. 33 watt amp. Plug a 4x12 Mesa/Boogie cab into it and watch your pant legs vibrate violently. This amp totaly blew me right the fuck away!!! Even the line out sounds sexy when recording. |

I know a guy who is selling a Mesa Boogie dual rectifier 3 channel head with 4x12 cab. Mint and is less than two years old. Used mostly in the studio. It is a big amp but it rocks like non other I have ever heard.

Most metal guys these days are using Mesa/Boogie. They're pretty great. You can go for a head and cabinet arrangement or a rack (my preference) if you want to be a little more portable and modular. In general you're definitely going to want a balls-loud tube amp--there is no real substitute.
Check out the Triaxis and a 50/50 if you have a few bucks. The Formula and the 20/20 is pretty nice too and can be had on e-bay for around 750. If you aren't playing shows and just want to fuck around, there's lots of good, cheap options. The POD has some good sounds and tube emulation. |

Marshalls all the way....
Herb K's ideal set up. 2 100 watt heads and 2 4x12 slant back cabs with celestions..... Now, I use a Marshall 8240 2x12 combo amp (dirty) and a Fender Princeton (clean). Guitar is a Lace Sensor strat 59 reissue. I play the blues and the usual SRV, Hendrix, clapton bag Herb K |

I've got a recording studio here and have seen and used just about every amp under the sun. For me it's always about diversity and so I use the Roland VG8 with patches I programmed myself. The Line 6 is a great tool for variety too.
Any other amp you really have to just go and try and see if something sounds right to you. One guy could love a Mesa and the next a Marshall and you can't say one is better. It's all based on personal taste. Anyway, if you wanna hear what the VG8 can sound like, check out http://www.spirit53.com. The Eternal Equinox album is mostly metal.

Mesa boogie dual rectifier's kick ass!
Was thinking of selling mine though if anyone's interested. Line 6 has some great stuff The new Marshall 2000 amps are a much better improvement from the originals a few years back If you want a great heavy sound (less mids, thick warm distortion) try to find a marshall 800 with a metal zone pedal. Line 6 spider, or marshall jcm 2000 triple super lead. |

Yah, I am down with all that, my band plays all that stuff and also, we got a new keyboard player that IS all things motown and funk. Really tasty and a wide variety of tunes that are in the Blues-rock, funk, motown bag. We played a few times at the Fringe Festival in philly here in the summer. I got a digital 12 track here at my house now and some signal processing gear, all my CD burnin gear, etc. Figured if I get some time off over the holidays maybe lay down a few tracks... I also use a Martin 000-15 (new Maghogany model) that TOTALLY kicks ass and a 1978 Guild JFN-55 acoustic for playin the real deal, Robert Johnson, blind lemon, elmore james, etc. |

For metal stuff nothing like a Mesa recto or Peavey 5150.
I got the peavey and it screams with my Les Paul Standard or my ESP Viper with EMG pickups. From 80's metal to death or numetal. |

Mesa's are good but overrated. I would get the Double Rectumfire or MKIV.
If you've got the money, get a Bogner Uberschall. The head goes for about $2400. |

I could buy a new amp every other day and not run out of shit to buy.
From Vintage VOX, Orange stacks, Marshall, Fender 65 Superverbs, Ampeg, - i like them all.

The samples from the site are the ones he did at home on his four trak mum bought him so they won't be as good as his new ones which were done and mixed by this professional studio! They will be online soon so I will let ya know when they are on and you can hear how good they really are.... they have only been together for 11 months and they got 30 of their own songs! My brother is the songwriter/singer/guitar player! he is a very talented young guy! His name is Jon and is the one with the dyed red heair in the pics.... thankfully his red highlights have grown out now and he looks normal again LOL p.s hit me up on icq and I'll get you some newer material for you to sample! Line 6 seems to be really tasty, I jammed last night with a crew and the one guitarist had one, Screaming tones, really nice.
$2500 is a bit steep for an amp that has to be drug in and out on the road, the massive electronics just make me think of more things to break at a gig, but they sound great. Maybe for a home recording situation, I played on the road a few years, and shit only breaks 5 minutes before you are set to go on, there is no local music store to get parts, etc. Nothing beats a Fender amp for being reliable. They are truly road worthy amps. I use no effects, right into the amp only, and use the channel switching from clean to dirty. Best thing I got recently for a guitarist is a nasty wireless. They totally rock out, no more cords to trip over after a few brews. And you can play all over the house thru your amp. Totally worth the investement of like $200.00 |

I have a Line 6 HD head...runs in stereo at 150 watts a side ( I think) I bought the original and have blown the motherboard 3 times.....tech help from Line 6 Sucks Ass.
They have fixed the MB problems with the Line 6 HD 2 however, i also use a dual rectifer with is great and a Peavey 5150 which is limited in tone, but fucking kicks ass if you happen to like that tone.. Marshall stacks are the only way to go for cab's as far as i am concerned...though i have some OLD randall cabs with Jaguar speakers that rock pretty good too. Don't buy a Line 6 combo...the speakers in it Suck shit. i play a Les paul 92 re-issue of the 57 black beauty custom with 3 PU's and a middle 70's flying V. Tones are great with the guitar/amp/cab combos. if you want to hear go to www.elvismanson.com and click on media...we have a couple of MP3's there that you can check out. Don't mind the site...it loads like shit and looks like ass. |
