I can't think of any pros at all unless you're just building a linkfarm that you really don't care about.
    I like pie.

use the freehost to build a bunch of splogs. I see it as just another tool to use to bring in money.

but one could do that just the same with their own subdomain and have more control....
          right?

blogger is easily indexed and well ranked. obviously google gives it's own project a fuckload of authority in the serps. you don't want to run your money sites on blogger, but it obviously has its uses.

You could do both, don't have to put much effert into the freehost one leaving you time to make quality blogs with your own subdomain and link to them from the free hosted ones

I agree I would spend most of my efforts on my own hosted blogs but you could certainly take advantage of hosted blog services by getting something basic going on them and linking.

on second thought setting up a my own blog/subdomain takes the same amount of time as a hosted service so not really seeing any big positives other than google "maybe" preferring blogger blogs a little more which obviously is doesn't matter if using for other hosted services like thumblogger , sensualwriter etc etc.

its useful in that you can build one way back links to your own sites from sites / pages that clearly exist outside your network - even more useful if you're doing it on a large scale. not very useful if your doing things on a small scale. (i.e. you have a fist full of sites, your working trades with people etc)

This is entirely applicable to small scale operations. It's bum marketing at it's finest. Free properties are a great way to build free backlinks for small projects. Pages that are a few layers back into your website which are SEOd for a specific term can each have their own blogger blog created quickly, with a little bit of content slapped together and SEOd specifically for that term. Strengthening your chase for longtail search terms while forwarding a lil juice onto your site. Rinse and repeat with other free blogging platforms and so forth.

thanks but still not seeing how using the free blogs for that is any better than subdomains i own and control. is it just what was stated earlier about being obviously outside the network ie: different c class IP. but would you have more flexibility with ip if doing it yourself?

also, in your opinion what differentiates small and large scale operations.??

it's a matter of choice. i consider blogger a good territory to build a few backlinks on. it's off my network, it's a trusted host, it's free, and it easy as fuck to setup quick. anywhere at anytime that you can take an easy backlink or two, you should take it. they aren't time consuming setups or anything. it's my opinion that a naturally popular page would have inbound links coming from all over the place. i don't even question it when i see a free backlink sitting waiting to be picked. i just take it. just seems like the right thing to do.

i pretty much call em as i see em when it comes to differentiating small from large scale operations, but generally i judge by how much of the work is one man working away for hours kind of work. if you're a one man show putting in little money you're straight up bum marketing, and you best be looking to take advantage of any opportunity you can. when i think big operations i think of someone operating with enough expendable cash for automation, outsourcing grunt work, and buying traffic/links. generally someone who works fulltime managing as opposed to busting their e-back.
