Since theres another spark of "tubes are killing the biz" threads, lets see what you guys think this.
First of, lets clearify something: There are TUBES and there are ILLEGAL TUBES. Now we never seem to agree on the 100% definition of illegal (useruploaded..) but lets, for this one thread, conclude that when we are talking about ILLEGAL TUBES we are talking about those that allow surfers to view full-length videos produced by companies without them having the rights to do so freely.
Lets try and NOT generalise the TUBES anymore. TUBES, no worries. ILLEGAL TUBES, no good.
That being sad, my ears echo every night from all the complaints about those illegal tubes (remember, we need to say illegal tubes, not just tubes kids!). And those complaints are 100% legit.
But i never hear anyone complain about those other types of sites that do exactly the same. Or maybe even worse.
Dumpsites, freesites.
When i browse the web, i see WAY more dumpsites and freesites then tubesites. And comparing stats of those 3, i notice that the dump and freesites often are WAY bigger then the tubesites.
Now that isnt a real problem yet right. But on those dump and freesites, i see almost ALL of them using embeds and almost 90% of them arent even promoting the programs of the videos they embed. NO links at all, NO banners NO buttons, nothing. They seem to have some banners up to unrelated programs, or even camsites, but almost NEVER to the right program matching the video.
And i just wonder.. is that "more or less" ok for program owners? That those sites/webmasters take whatever hosted embed from your site and dont even promote your program?
No offense to anyone, but i for my part, would hate it pretty much if i would see my videos being hosted by some huge ass free/dump sites, without putting even one link back to the program up.
Why am i telling you all this? I dont even know.. Maybe its because i had a conversation once with a rep of some big sponsors, that didnt like the idea of me having 1 link to another program on their videos, while there are 5-6 banners on every videopage of them going back to THEIR program.
