I love how some of our politicians are so unabashedly on the take.

This post is not to say that the democrats are without their problems. Clearly they have their problems and corruptions as well, but this just kind of amused me.

Not too long ago there were many a republican senator on the floor complaining about how we need to cut off funding to ACORN after those ugly videos of them giving illegal tax advice to strippers/hookers and giving other advice to would be pimps. I agree that ACORN needs to be shredded and the funding cut. However, Al Franken puts up an amendment to a bill that would cut off funding to any US contractor that forces their employees to sign an agreement saying that they will not sue if the are sexually assaulted on the job and these same senators are now against the bill saying that we should not be involving ourselves with the inner workings of these companies.

The case came from a woman that worked for a US contractor Halliburton in Iraq. She was basically drugged then gang raped by her fellow employees while on the job.

Franken put the amendment to the defense spending bill up that would stop ?the Defense Department from contracting with companies that require employees to resolve sexual assault allegations and other claims through arbitration?

It passed 68-30. All 30 no votes were republicans. Many of whom are the same guys who railed against ACORN.

So to recap. In the republican party it is not okay to give money to people give bad/illegal tax advice to hookers/strippers, but it is okay to give money to companies that force their employees to sign a contract stating that if you get raped by a fellow employee you can't sue them. Interesting.

I think the point that you are attempting to make is a stretch...like comparing apples to oranges. On another note...I think that the signing of any such document...would not be binding in a court of law. I also think that Franken is a "big fat idiot".

I'm trying to figure out why you would sue your employer over sexual assault.

If you are working for a contractor who sends you to a foreign country to work and your co-workers drug and gang rape you I would guess that maybe your employer either did piss poor job in hiring people or did not do a good enough job providing security.

To me it isn't that big of a stretch. The republican hate ACORN and took every chance they could to attack it (in this care rightfully so). But they love Halliburton because those guys donate a lot of money to the republican party to make sure the fat contracts keep coming. when they are feeding you big donations it is easier for some to turn a blind eye.

And Al Franken isn't on my favorites list either, but I think this is a pretty good thing he did.

If one had complained multiple times to the employer of harassment and the employer ignored your complaints and then you were assaulted...some blame lies with the employer...one be one scenario.

I don't know, if I went to work everyday and a group of big black dudes talked about gangfucking my ass, I don't think I'd stick around long enough to complain let alone let it happen. (especially in another country where I knew I would have little recourse)

As for the politics of the matter...I spend a good deal of my time watching C-Span...one and two. In the House and in the Senate if one of the two parties proposes something the votes are almost 100% party line votes for and against the proposal. Thus neither party ever has a good idea...according to the opposing party...which makes all of them nothing but jokes...except they are not funny. It is utterly ridiculous.

So you should be denied the opportunity to work just because you don't want to be gang raped?

Now the Democrats can run campaign commercials that say "____ voted against protecting women in the workplace."

That is a good point. When one party is in power the other party becomes the "no" party. It is like they are saying, "whatever it is you are proposing, we are against it."
