What does the Chris Bosh domain decision mean for celeb and pornstar domain names?

any armchair domain legalists feel free to weigh in.

This isnt a controversial case. Its a rather easy decision. The squatter didnt show - its a default judgment and based on the default judgment the judge ordered the transfer of the names.

Its doesnt appear that the actual legal issues were ever decided on.

It would seem like anything, if you reg something that can be confused with the "official" possibly run into issues, but I doubt most porn performers have trademarked their name or use their real name, like sports athletes?

This is lawyers wet dream type of case, a good lawyer can make a case when there is none, so it doesnt matter really, just matters if your lawyer is better than theirs LOL or as posted above win on technicality and have nothing to do with the issue at hand LOL

While it might not technically set any case law, I think it could very well set in motion actions by other celebs who will feel its a good time to act if they had for some reason ignored the cybersquatters in the past. As well I think the fact that the defendant didn't even show up is an indication that future cases could be won the very same way.

Why? There's always celebs winning their domain...this isn't the first time it's happened. I forget what the others off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure there's been more marquee cases than this.

It means nothing. It's almost always much easier and cheaper to buy FirstNameLastName.com than deal with filing UDRP or lawsuit. Also, the number of people who are famous enough to warrant exclusive rights to their FirstNameLastName is very tiny. For every one who has a legit case, there are dozens who are just trying to muscle their way into their FirstNameLastName.com. Majority of those will have their UDRP complaint rejected. Which brings us back to buying is easier and cheaper.
