Seattle, WA !!!

My wife has a potential job opportunity in Seattle and we are traveling up there this week to feel the place out and decide if its somewhere we wanna live (Job will be in the Renton area i think). Will be there for 5 days. Though, I've driven thru Seattle before, i ve never stayed there nor explored.

- would really appreciate any pointers on places we can see/hangout to get the local feel of things... local stuff, fun stuff, out door stuff, touristy stuff.. all advise welcome

thanks guys!

Advice, make the extra trip up to Vancouver (only a couple hours north) where it's actually beautiful ;) haha Seattle is okay. I should have probably got pointers before going down there myself though, I don't think I experienced the city to the fullest.

Hey, I grew up in Redmond. It's a great place, but you're right, not much for a tourist to see there.

yep, travel up to Vancouver and check it out too. it's not far, and from there you can come up to Whistler to bike in the summer, and snowboard/ski in the winter. good times. Seattle is a great launching point for all things adventurious.

Seattle is awesome. Like everyone said, do the touristy stuff.

I also like shopping in the U district, they have a bunch of cool shops there.

Renton is ok, I dunno if I would want to live there. When I lived in Washington I was in Olympia, absolutely beautiful. I don't know if the commute would makse sense, but you should try to head down there at least once and check it out. Get a mexi sampler at King Sol's Reef.

seattle is a shithole. you want to look on the east side - Kirkland / Bellevue are very nice, quiet and have no riff raff. further out - issaquah / redmond if you want peace and quiet but access to normal city stuff. south side if your low rent. greenlake area if your a hippy. downtown if you like stumbling over homeless people.

Seattle is a great city as long as you don't mind 9 months of windy wet fall weather, only 1 month of summer and 2 months of winter. Traffic is absolutely terrible as well, yes even worse then LA.

As far as stuff to do, go to all the tourist things downtown, hit the eastside as well. Take ferry to one of the islands from downtown around sunset.

If you get to the Tacoma area, Point Defiance Park is very cool. And in seattle, if it's open the Seattle Science Center is always worth a visit. The music and sci-fi museum is right by it as well (it's in the space needle area).

And then there's the Pier where you can get THE BEST clam chowder at Ivers on Pier 54.

Other than that, I grew up in south eastern WA so I didn't get over to the east all that much growing up. ;-)

I actually grew up in the Tri-Cities of all shitholes. I first escaped WA by getting a job on the east coast, then I got transfered to Florida. That was fun for about 5 years. About that time I started getting serious with a dutchie and when we decided one of us had to move I jumped on the oppertunity to live in Europe.

Really, I haven't looked back. Back in 2006 the dutchie and I went back to the Tri-Cities to visit my folks and it didn't even feel like home anymore.

Seattle is a cool place!

My birthplace actually (although I spent my formative years in Hawaii)...

I grew up near Green Lake (which someone described rightly as the hippy area).

I visited Far L (Farrell of Homegrown Video) a few years ago there, not far from my own childhood home - good times...

Anyway, here are some good jams from one of Seattle's finest. Jimi Hendrix, which captures the vibe of the locale and weather:
