hey guitarists...

i just read the guitar amp post and i see we have quite a few guitar players... i've been playing myself for about 8 years and i'm starting to get into the complex stuff... i just learned "Classical Gas" the eric clapton version and its pretty sweet and not too hard to play... any of you know any real good / complex acoustic and or electric stuff to learn?

I spent almost a month transcribing that song then it came out in a magazine. That happened to me twice. =] Great piece though!

Best guitarist... totally a matter of taste. For my money I find guys like De Lucia and Holdsworth VERY hard to cop and enjoyable so I put them at the top of the list. But then you get guys who play relatively simple stuff (by comparison to the Fusion or Flamenco guys) and yet what they play and how it's played moves you emotionally so how can you not say that's incredible too?

How about we trade some links on music? I'd love to hear other GFYers play! Some of my stuff is at http://www.spirit53.com. @ a loss 4 words is the one with the most guitar. =]

Not the best, most popular I guess.
I saw Petrucci a few months ago, Pretty impressive!
But Tony MacAlpine visited my town a few weeks ago: I couldn't sleep for 3 days, amazing!

Thanks man. All the stuff at Spirit 53 is me. I just suggested @ a loss 4 words because it's guitar instrumental. =]

The stuff at http://www.dreamache.com/music/music.htm is nice. Very peaceful. Do you listen to guys like Alex DeGrassi or William Ackerman?

Zakk Wylde has blown my fucking mind for a long time, his stuff with Black Label Society is just fucking insane. Alcohol Fueled Brewtality Live is probably one of the best live albums to come out in the past few years IMO. Technical skills and speed aside, Tony Iommi is and always will be god.

Someone post about a jam the week before Internext...

A few who haven't been mentioned yet. John Fahey for finger-picking, Paco de Lucia is probably my favorite for flamenco. For blues you have to give Buddy Guy a listen--even Hendrix looked up to Buddy. I'm forgetting many I'm sure. Mahavishnu John McLaughlin is no fucking joke. Durutti column is worth a listen. Ali Farke Toure is also one of my favorites. Recent upand comers would be Tom Morello from Rage--he approached things with a new ear. Jimmy Page still reigns as one of my absolute favorites. I also like to listen to sitarists for inspiration. God, there are so many great ones...
