    Questions about Mobile Video

    I am currently re-editing all of my video for BFO. I have 320x480 as a default video codec and the clip will be 3g format. I am curious, many mobile sites have a width of 320 pixels, is there a universal standard for mobile cell phones or some sort of reference point that the media will work on all brands?
    And what is the most widely used format?

      maybe i will use flash video, it seems more popular, and the codec is universal on most mobile platforms.

        No -- don't do that.

        We can help you out, but I'd rather not do so in the board environment. Hit me up -- q @ topbucksmobile .com -- and I'll get you info on your best options for this.

          I would find someone to handle this for you, as based on this statement it doesn't sound like you're too familiar with anything mobile web related. Not only is Flash NOT universal, it works on MAYBE 2% of mobile smartphones right now. Right now, that would be a huge waste of your time.

          Hit me up and I can point you in the right direction.

              It would make sense to give my members access to mobile as well when it is up and running... or no? I am planning on only doing video and wallpaper, so it will be cheaper than my reg membership pricing, or at least that is the plan right now...

                I asked sly from Topbucks about your question. Here is what he sent me.
                It depends on what aspect ratio they're encoding for. If they want standard definition, then they should encode at 320x240. If they're encoding for widescreen, then they should encode at 428x240. Both resolutions will pretty much guarantee the video will fit almost all media playing mobile devices.
                The most widely used encoding format for mobile is h.264 encoded mp4.

                  I would stick with quicktime..I poked around a few mobile sites and the ones that worked the best used quicktime...and for pic content I would use .png and actually make them min 2x the size of the screen people like to zoom in..If you do use mp4 I would suggest making sure it is downloadable and not streaming. I had too many issues with the playing on the devices. stuterring and them crapping out basically. reminded me of video back in 1999

                  * meant dont use wmv...
