Mobile paysites? Trend or not?

I used to think mobile sites were a pointless novelty. But I find myself visiting m.facebook.com from my Blackberry more often than the real site. I find myself checking out m.break.com, and m.youtube.com... the value for me is there.

How much of an added value do you think a fully-functional mobile version of your paysite would provide your surfers? Can you realistically expect to make sales through it? Or is it just something that is good to offer as an extra function of a membership?

There are more and more people going online on their smart phones. It's a massive blossoming industry! I think by having a mobile version of your paysite you are going to achive 2 things.

1. more sales
2. better retention of your existing member's by offering them the option of viewing your site on their mobile phone

It's a no lose deal.

I used to think "oh, cell phones are getting better so there won't be a need soon." I lumped it into the fad group.

BUT

Cell phone screens aren't getting that much bigger ... so "mobile sites" will always be a good thing to have. No matter how advanced mobile browsers get, stripped down sites that give you want you need will always perform best on mobile.

I do the same thing as xenigo does when it comes to FB on my phone ... m.facebook.com is the best.
