                                                                                      I havent had a flu shot of any kind since I was old enough to decide for myself if I wanted one. When I hear shit like 1 in 2 people will get the flu, I want the data that says "and NONE of them will get it who have had the flu shot", but ya know what? You never hear that. Now wouldnt you WANT to display how well the shot works when citing such stats? They must not be too proud of how well it works if they blurt out that 50% will get the flu, and the flu shot didnt mitigate a single fucking one. Things that make you ask Yo, whats the dealio?

                                                                                                      I am and I just learned that there are literally dozens of such studies on the effectiveness of flu vaccines but no one can quote one single number because the flu virus changes from year to year. According to the CDC Web site though, when the vaccine is well-matched to circulating strains, immunization reduces the risk of getting influenza "by 70% to 90% among healthy adults".

                                                                                                      Examples of studies on various strains and vaccines:
                                                                                                      New England Journal of Medicine. Oct 4, 2007
                                                                                                      Archives of Internal Medicine. Feb 14, 2005
                                                                                                      Vaccine. March 15, 2002
                                                                                                      Journal of Infectious Diseases. Jan 15th, 2009. This one is interesting. It found that the vaccine's effect in preventing an infection that requires medical attention ranged from 5% during the 2004-05 season to 37% in 2006-07.
