Yes, go through them? Check the whois or just registration status?

What type of domains are you looking for?

I enjoy finding unregisterd or dropping names but it takes time. I just think of a domain I really want...usually already taken and if the whois does not have privacy and it is not developed I try and purchase it from the owner. Sometimes you can register a couple hundred new okay names...but for the same cost you can get 1 or 2 premium ones. (the ones you really want)

Search for 1000 domains at one time? How would you do that? I have no idea.

As much as you'd rather not have to go through 500 at a time, I can tell you that Godaddy's bulk check is one of the quickest around from my experience, plus covers a lot of different extensions. If you do split screen with your starting names in an Excel spreadsheet so it's easy to pick 500 at a time, a browser on GoDaddy's bulk check, and a notepad open to paste the availables (which all stay in the search field so you click in there, hit Ctrl + A and do copy/paste into the notepad), it's really not horrible. One time I actually took on checking all LLLL.com domains, and there's much more than 28,000 of those.

DomainTools.com works okay if you have a membership there, but you really have to know what you're doing to work it right, and if you're going through a list with a lot of available domains, then you really won't be able to check more than maybe 1000-2000 at a time. It will probably be slower than GoDaddy, then it'll be hard to copy/paste the results because they won't contain the domains but instead the SLD with com/net/org/info/biz/us with which exts are taken.

Also, if you have a wholesale account at Fabulous.com, their bulk check does up to 1,000 at a time and I've found it to be one of the most reliable availability checkers. Still, it's slower than GoDaddy.
