the last pics I saw of him he was very obese, and in fact, it was an article about him wanting to diet because he would not see his child grow up or something man. He's done a bunch of interviews about his weight.

that is the thing, I read his twitter where he said the flight was only half full so space is not the issue. Maybe they knew who he was and first class was empty so they were trying to get him to upgrade and it turned nasty.. I've seen far bigger people than that in one seat on full flights.

By eye?

By overall weight, after the passenger steps on a scale?

Based upon passenger complaints?

Do they decide AFTER the person is in their seat?

Anyone know?

I guess I had ASSumed that a fancy celebrity would be sitting in first class. If someone is having fatso issues in a wider, more comfortable, first class seat, I think SW has a valid point.

They do not have Southwest flights in the greater part of the midwest (except Mid Way outside of Chicago). Some handy reading for you.

So I recommend you take your own advice, and go buy yourself a clue. Especially the ASSuming part that people would have this knowledge about a low cost, or economy carrier and their seating, in a market they do not fly to.

Firstly, let me start this by saying Clerks is my favourite film of all time and I have been a fan of Kevin since it first came out.

Now, that said, Southwest has for a very long time had the rule that if you are over a certain weight you need to buy two seats. I know this because when I was at my highest weight I had to do so with them several times. Well, I didn't *have* to but I did because they made it clear in their company policy that if they thought you were too big and you hadn't already booked two seats and the flight was full you would be bounced. So, I always did just to save the chance of embarrassment and missing a flight.

Each and every time Southwest were very nice about it and highly professional. In exchange, you got priority boarding which meant you get to pick your seat rather than do the rush for a seat that happens for everybody else. It is almost worth paying that extra anyway to not have anybody sitting next to you and not having to be waiting in line to board for ages.

So, my guess is he didn't read the materials and could have just bought a second seat. Which, surely he can afford. Instead he kicked up a fuss.

Also, the last time I saw him in London (like six months ago) smoking weed had become pretty much the focus of his life. So, there is also the possibility that he stunk of that and it added to them wanting to bump him.

They keep running a teaser for the story on the morning news but they haven't shown it yet, curious to see what his weight is at currently.

He was on a talk show about a year ago, I want to say Conan but I'm not sure, but I was pretty shocked at how big he had gotten. He said that he was starting a diet though because he sat on a toilet and actually broke it. God, that's gotta suck.

Southwest is a shit airline anyway, but they are cheap. I wonder if they gave him the option to buy two seats and he declined. Seems like someone like him would want to spend the extra $$ just to not have to deal with the situation.

from what I read, you have to be able to put down the arm rest or something, if you cant, you are booted.

thats just what Ive read in the articles though. He claims he could put arm rest down with no problem.

I jhope he loses the weight, hes good director and I loved most of his stuff except that Amy crap. Although even that had some good dialogu if I recall correctly, I only watched it once and barely did...

But lose it in a healthy way. In one of his books he talks about the last time he lost it he did one of those liquid only diets and physically didn't eat anything for months. What a shocker it all came back and brought buddies then.

well it seems he bought two seats going there but could only get single seat on way back:

Both Smith and the airline acknowledged that he had bought two seats for his original flight from Oakland, where he had spoken at the Macworld Expo conference. But he was flying standby in order to catch an earlier flight, and only one seat was available.

hopefully this embarrassment will cause him to go for the weightloss as he has been saying he needs to lose weight for years now.

I have no problem with people smoking. He, himself, said on that night that he nearly didn't come out on stage since he was so stoned. He, himself, has said many times it has taken over his life in many ways. Sure, I was speculating but it wouldn't be out of the line of his current public behaviour.

Well on the subject of smoking marijuana, and even flying with it in California, is perfectly legal to do.

In California you can fly from Oakland to Burbank with weed, legally.

Something tells me if Kevin Smith is an avid pot smoker, the way it is rumored to be so, he has legal medical marijuana card, which means not only can he fly with weed, he can legally "take" his meds before flying and no one can do anything.

Flying with marijuana is not a crime in California if you have med card. I believe you can carry up to a pound with you. The law specifically was made for Oakland folks to fly to SOCAL.

I think this is fair, what about the guy that had to sit next to his fat-ass? Fuck, if you don't want these kind of problems DON'T GET THAT FAT! It's one thing to be 20-40lbs overweight, but when you start taking up two fucking seats on a plane then you deserve it. oakland aiport is the ONLY one who has a policy on mm when boarding and it's 8oz max. try and carry 8oz onto an airplane in any other cali airport and you are opening yourself up to serious risk.
