Lexington, KY (AHN) - Kentucky State Police are investigating whether a former Republican gubernatorial candidate murdered his ex-fiancee Friday.
Amanda Ross, 29, was found shot to death outside her home near downtown Lexington Friday morning.
Steve Nunn, who ran for governor in 2003, was found in a cemetery where his parents were buried, hours after Ross' body was found. Nunn had a handgun and had cut his wrists. Police said he shot toward himself, but missed.
Local television station WKYT reports that Nunn, 56, is in fair condition. He has been charged with six counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for shooting the gun at the cemetery, but he has not been charged in connection with Ross' murder.
Ross had a restraining order against Nunn earlier this year. Nunn's friends told reporters that his mental health began to deteriorate after a divorce and the death of his father, former Gov. Louie B. Nunn
