I witnessed a terrible accident today..

I'm driving along the freeway today and just happen to glance up in time to catch a motorcyclist on his bike coming the other direction.. Probably doing 70 or 80... when all of the sudden he starts a wobble or something and dumps it right on the fucking freeway!

Next thing I saw was his bike go flying, it went sideways and flipped end over end... then I see the guy... wearing jeans, t-shirt and luckily a helmet. He's tumbling like a fucking rag doll down the freeway. He was sliding on his ass and his side past me...

I pulled over hit the on-star emergency button and while I was on with them, traffic was backing up on the other side of the freeway. I happen to see an ambulance on the on other side of the freeway caught in the backed up traffic.. I waved him down and told them about the dude.

Luckily the guy had an ambulance within literally 1 minute of hitting the ground.

It was fucking crazy.. I own motorcycles and used to ride a lot.. I know people who have crashed, but it's nothing like seeing it in person. Totally crazy...

People don't really know how fast a 1000cc bike can go, a flick of the wrist and your already at 80mph in no time

by the time I stopped and the guy stopped sliding the other way.. I was pretty far.. and there was too much traffic for me to back up. The traffic on the other side of the freeway was completely blocked off. So I couldn't tell.

I called the police a few hours later to see if I could find anything.. All they told me was that he wasn't D.O.A. and he was transported to the hospital, but they didn't know anything else.

I remember this accident when i was about 12. this guy on a "Murder Cycle" tried to pass a truck filled with paper on the left side.Well buddy and his new chopper didnt make it and the truck rolled over his head...Dam this still haunts me 30 years later a huge pool of blood streaming down the hill and a part of his scalp still in his helmet 30 feet away..

That's one reason I'll never drive a motorcycle... It would be fun.. and 'free' feeling and all... I just wouldn't want to feel like a rag doll, or break my spine.. Just wouldn't be comfortable.

I hope the guy's okay.

Cheers,
Matt

accident at any speed suck. we're really quite fragile.

there have been those insurance company ads where they dump a car from x feet up to simulate the damage a car sustains when it hits at 30 mpg....

really scary.

That guy can thank cellphones and on-star for saving his ass. Although, right about now I bet he wished he were dead. Road Rash is a bitch!

damn KC.. that's a crazy story... i've had a few friends die from bikes and much more that has seriously hurt themselves...

Here's a crazy story... for the longest time bikers were trying to get rid of the helmet law here in flordia and there was this one chic that was a big speaker to rid the helmet law... When the law was lifted this lady was in a bike accent that same night and died and the doctors said she would have lived if she had a helmet on.

I am not a fan of motorcycles. Ever since I put armor all on the tire of mine in college and laid it down, I figured they were not for me!

I was sitting in a turn lane and a kid was crossing the street from the other side on his bike. Well I guess he didn't notice that the light was still green and I guess the lady that plowed into him at like 40+ miles an hour didn't see him, but I saw the whole thing and watched the kid fly about a dozen yards. Jumped out and called 911, other people jumped out also to help. Not sure if the kid lived or not, only looked about 11 y/o.

A buddy of mine told me about this:

A few years ago he knew a guy that only wanted one thing in life, to own a Suzuki GSXR 1100. So he worked his ass off , bought one, got all the cool leathers and matching helmet, etc. Well, he should have invested in some riding lessons.

The way the cops figured from the skidmarks, is that this guy was probably doing over 100MPH when his bike went into a skid, hit a curb and sent him flying into a chainlink fence.

He probably would have been ok if the bike, which was also doing over 100MPH and weighed probably about 600 pounds ALSO went flying into the fence, effectively pushig him THROUGH the chainlink not unlike a piece of meat through a grinder.

The paramedics that arrived on the scene said they had never, ever seen anything so horrific as a human body pushed through a goddamn chainlink fence.

Needless to say, I still want a motorbike, but I sure as hell won't get a crotch-rocket like that. Those things are meant for EXPERT riders. Nobody, and I don't care how big and strong you are, NOBODY has any business piloting an 1100cc superbike as their first ride, with little or no training. That's fucking suicide.

Motorycycles are fucking dangerous!

My good friend died June 30 2002 after some kid
pulled in his path. Jeff was unable to avoid the collision.
He had been riding for over 15 years....

About 6 yrs ago, me and my mom in a truck i had just bought pulling off my road onto hwy 9. towards boulder creek.

(the road up to 9 is so steep it was almost vertical with tall redwood trees on all sides. Its russian roulette everytime you pull off this road.

Hwy 9 is a scenic route. Many thrill seekers take their bikes out for a sweet adrenaline rush on this dangerous 2 lane hwy, as many as 10 buzzing by in a row.)

We pull up the slope off my rode and BAM! The windshield shattered. The front end of my truck completely totalled. The guy on the cycle must have been going 90mph. He was 100yards ahead on the hwy, i think he was crying or something obviously in pain. His bike flew into a tree off the slope down to our road.

Then my mom starts screaming at him, i think she even started kicking him.

LOL yeah that's pretty much what I said to him, something like "And Stairway to heaven was still playing on his walkman, right?" but then a couple of days later he showed me the Newspaper article about it, with pictures of the RCMP putting up big yellow tarps all over the place and a bunch of trees just COVERED in blood...

You're right though, that does sound like an urban legend, doesn't it? I kinda wish it WAS, actually...

I missed seeing the actual impact point on a head on collision about a month ago but was right past it about 10 seconds later and this jeep that got the full hit had rolled and the dudes inside must not have been wearing seat belts cause they both got tossed out. One big dude was face down, not moving at all and everyone thought that guy is fucking toast.

Then all of a sudden his whole body starts convulsing and kind of flapping around like a big walrus. It was freaky as fuck. Then the guy rolls over and sits up with his face all smashed in, drenched completely in blood all his teeth gone and this bulge on his head the size of a softball. Man it was was like out of a horror flick. People were going to go and help him but they all stepped back. Don't know if he lived or died but that dude will definitely have some serious headaches for the rest of his life.

The dumb fucker that caused the headon was doing 80 miles an hour in a 35 zone trying to beat the light with his front left tire being one of those mini spares. So apparently you can't drive those at that speed or you risk losing control which he did when he tried to avoid the other guy turning in the intersection.

Three days before I got my drivers license two friends of mine ran a stop sign at 60+ and plowed into a car driven by three other friends. The 2nd car - one of those old 60's boat-sized Buicks - was just about cut in half One dead, one paralyzed; and the guy who was driving the car that hit them is still fucked up over it today, 30+ years later.

I now live in a small town where all the kids have these ricerockets. It seems like you can tell school is getting ready to start because sometime in August there will be an article in the paper about the local kid getting ready to go into his Senior year, or getting ready to start college, who buys the farm on his Yamaha or Suzuki.

And pushing a body through a chain link sounds pretty gruesome ... but it can't be worse than I guy who walks into the prop arc of an airplane. That I have seen ... as well as a guy who shot himself into the roof of a hanger with an ejection seat.

When I was about 8 or 9 years old, I went with my mom to her hairdresser's house which was situated one house down from a nasty-ass intersection on a hill. I was standing at the front window watching traffic when I saw this guy on a motorcycle start into a left turn and just get hammered by this old woman in a huge freaking Cadillac. The woman was speeding, we found out later, and I swear that bike exploded into a million pieces on impact. The thing that I had nightmares about for years was watching this guy go flying about 3/4 of a block straight out and then drop about 15 feet to land further down the hill. I didn't realize there was so much blood in a person till that day.

I live about 8 blocks from the local high school in a subdivision where apparently a lot of parents have WAY to much money to spend on Johnnie and Susie OverAchiever. I cringe everytime I see one of these superjocks riding around on a crotch rocket in shorts, a tank top, and sandals, usually with a scantilly-clad female clinging onto them for dear life. In the five years I've lived here, I've heard countless stories of the number of teenagers killed drag racing up and down the streets around here. The cops even left one bike sitting on the corner at one of the really busy intersections so people could see what happens to a bike that hits a telephone pole at about 80 MPH. They didn't bother to clean the blood off, either.

We used to joke that you could tell the ones who had either dumped a bike or knew someone who had... they were the ones in full leathers and a full-face helmet. It started out as a joke, but it's really not all that funny if you think about it.

There have been a few accidents on the main road close to my home. It goes from the M61 Junction 3 to Bolton town centre. Strangely enough it's called the A666.

One involved a guy driving to work, he had a heart attack and hit two people and a telephone box at 30mph. All three of those died.

Further up and around a roundabout, the road turns into a dual carriageway where the limit is 50. My gran has a friend who's husband, son, grandson (some male relation) was doing 70 when he crashed and died.

There was a motorbike accident here last summer where an 8 year old kid was killed. A Porsche driver was going 40 in the 30 zone when he struck a biker. The biker came off, his bike flew through the air at about 40 or so and took out the kid. He didn't live. That night I was out heading towards a garage, but when I got down there the whole place was blocked off with police and ambulences. I used to go to school with that kid's older brother... I think the car driver and biker survived.

If I'd have set off 5 minutes earlier then I'd have seen the whole thing. ;-(

We saw some dude on a motorcycle hit a deer one night. He was going about 80 or so when he hit it. The deer was a wreck but the guy lived with just a few broken ribs.

I heard a buddy of mine say... if you're riding and you see a deer in your path.. aim for the deer's front shoulders.. it'll be gone by the time you get there... if it's a cow, he aint moving. lol

A friend of mine's cousin hit something on his bike (i think it was a car door someone opened) and had on loose pants/shorts.

His nutsack got caught on the gas cap of the bike and tore off.

And los angeles freeways are hell... I have seen a few people die for sure. I have almost been in horrible accidents several times myself due to crazed, speeding drivers. Or young guys racing their stupid cars that they don't even know how to drive.

Blah -- and my cousin would be dead if he was wearing a helmet.

I agree that they probably save more lives than they take, but that should be a persons decision.

I fell off my bicycle when I was three and put a nasty scrape on my knee. It took four banaids to cover it.

no joke. I've never been on a motorcyle that did not crash. I've been on a motorcycle 4 times in my life and every time they crashed.

man, motorcycle accidents are usually pretty nasty at any speed.

In one of my previous life's when I was doing the EMT thing I saw a few nasty accident (results) ... and MVAs were always the worst, well maybe a few gunshot wounds or beatings came close, but not often...

yeah, I heard someone else say there are no minor motorcycle accidents. They are all serious and ugly.
