It wasn't a mistake, per se. They probably made the determination based on numbers alone. Picked Ally. Sent out the invite / notice.
Her PR person circulated a release announcing it. Blogs picked it up and at least the City Desk decided to see who she was. Something Gingrich's staff failed to do. When they saw Pink Visual, well, even Ally was surprised.
When Gingrich's staff did their search to see where the traffic was coming from, they noticed their "error."
So, in the future, if you win something like this, keep silent about it until the next morning.

It would be a multifaceted message -- one that I'd say is something that the Right and Left in Washington (and elsewhere) need to hear and heed:
Part one: if you don't carefully target your marketing, you just never know who might show up at your dog and pony show/awards ceremony.
Part two: you might want to brush up on the language and import of the "Junk Fax Prevention Act" passed in 2005.
Part three: shop Pink Visual for all your adult entertainment needs. (Of course!)
There's more that could be said, certainly... but those points are a good start.
