Ultimate TV is the best,,
BTW, i have had the standalone TIVO with my cable TV and it sucked only had one tuner and it was slow as fuck to change channels and sometimes you'd be lucky if the standalone Tivo did change the channels, had it working for a year but the damn modem went bad i regret getting that Lifetime Membership didn't know that it only follows the box and not the user what a bunch of crap,, so thats when i went with directv,, it kicks ass, the dual tuner and changing channels is a breeze and gauranteed |

well my main problem with the standalone boxes was the damn "infared blaster" basically when you change channels it first goes to the recorder than it sends info to the cable box to change the channel, and if you have digital cable it could mean 2-3 seconds changing channels,, there were times when i scheduled a recording and it didn't happen, basically the recorder and the box was on two different channels and recorded the wrong show also the single tuner really sucked, if wanted to watch something live and another show was about to record then you was fucked |

I have TiVo and a satellite dish. I've NEVER been able to get the damn TiVo to talk to the dish box to make it change channels and last week the modem died (it's less than 6 months old). If you have a cable box it might not be that big a problem. Also, in order to watch one channel and record another with satellite, you have to run another sat. feed into TiVo.
I'm going to look at the dish that DirecTV has that offers a replay system. TiVo IS way cool when it works, though ![]() |

I have a Tivo and I love it. Problems have been few and far between in the nearly 2 years I've had it... The newer boxes have even more features and larger HDs than what I have too.
To watch "live tv" and record something at the same time, you just need to have another feed that bypasses the Tivo. Not a problem. I have cable coming in from the wall to my Tivo, from the wall to my digital cable box to my TV (for High Def stuff only - Tivo can't record that anyway, obviously), and I think even straight from the Wall to the TV. Don't really use that feed though, but it's there so I can do more PIP stuff, etc... Anyway, long story short - Tivo rules. I haven't tried the others, so I can't compare them... I'm sure you can find tons of comparisons/discussion on the web though.

well, I got www.replaytv.com and so far it kicks ass, It has an ethernet port and basically just plugged it in and it worked right out of the box.
It also has a web based remote control so I can record shows remotely. I have standard cable so Im not having delay issues. It also seemed to improve my picture quality because im using av cables from the box to my tv. Im uploading pictures to it right now. Also it appears you can send shows to anyone with a replay tv and an internet connection as well as send shows between boxes in your LAN. But so far the coolest thing is the web based remote. ![]() |
