So she wants the government to give you money to pay for your health insurance. I see.

          http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090827/...eat_white_hope

TOPEKA, Kan. – U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins told a recent gathering in northeast Kansas that the Republican Party is looking for a "great white hope" to help stop the political agenda of the Democratic party and President Barack Obama.

Videotape shows Jenkins, a Republican, making the comment at an Aug. 19 forum. She was discussing the Republican party's future after Democrats took control of the House and Senate in the 2008 elections, when the presidency went to Obama, the nation's first black president.

A Jenkins spokeswoman told The Topeka Capital-Journal Wednesday that Jenkins apologized for her word choice and did not intend to offend anyone.

Kenny Johnston, of the Kansas Democratic Party, says Jenkins' statement was regrettable and that she should stick to discussing solutions.

Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-Kans.), fresh off the ?Great White Hope? controversy of last week, can be seen in this video talking down a woman named Elizabeth Smith who, according to The Associated Press, couldn?t afford insurance for her son. At 1:47, Jenkins takes her question and, sort of jarringly, laughs at it.

SMITH: I want an option that I can pay for. I work. I pay my bills. I?m not a burden on the state. I pay my taxes. So why can?t I get an affordable option. Why are you against that?

JENKINS: A government run program is going to subsidize not only yours but everybody in this room. So I?m not sure what we?re talking about.

Later she quiets the crowd and tells Smith that ?people should be given the opportunity to take care of themselves with a refund, or an advanceable tax credit, to go be a grown-up and go buy the insurance.?

The truth sucks and it just smacked this woman in the face. A twenty-seven year old single mother can't afford healthcare and she's asking her representative what the government can do to help her. And her representative told her to fuck off. Nice.

That's an interesting argument, considering that Mrs. Jenkins' health care is SUBSIDIZED BY THE GOVERNMENT.

Healthcare is a sacred Right. Rep. Jenkins should have offered to pay for all of her medical expenses and ensure she has a new non-clunker car, a 60inch plasma TV and an XBOX 360 for her kid.

Where which is possible: where a politician can tell a constituent she's shit out of luck and be cheered by other citizens? Or where a woman can work a full time job and still not be able to provide health care for her child?

Typical moronic response... Do you even understand the problem at all? No one is asking for FREE health insurance. Americans are just asking for some intervention so that we can stop being anally raped by insurance companies. The average health insurance policy for a family is over $10k annually. That is fucking ridiculous and you know it. You act like you're protecting democracy armed with your knowledge from Fox News, but all you're really doing is helping to line the pockets of a bunch of fat cats.

if you ask this way: both

but i meant being single mother, working and not being able to provide healthcare to your kid.

i know single mothers get the short end of the stick mostly everywhere, but at least basic things like health care are usually provided. i can only tell from the two countries i am living in: health care is NOT free, it's a % from your income. but it's mandatory to have it and if you are jobless the government takes care of it. no fancy things, but you NEVER have to worry about going to a doctor when you or someone from your family is sick that you can't pay for it. and if you are wealthy enough you can opt in for extra insurances that also cover the more fancy things.

of course no system is perfect but if i may say so: the US system sucks donkey balls

Interesting that every single proponent of the health care reform bill always says "we need this now", yet if passed it don't go into effect until 2013, so, why all the fucking urgency over it.

No politician should laugh at their subjects, that's pretty much what we are to them now.
It just makes me wonder what has gone wrong these last 80 years. This great experiment of letting the government take care of you has failed.

This women is a single women, I don't know her sitiuation. Where the hell!, is the father of this child?, yes this may sound horrible!, but I nor anybody else should have to pay for her kid.

This happens all of the time, 80 years ago, your family had to take care of you. Or you had to go to the church, this is pathetic! that people have to rely on the government for everything. Yes insurance companies are charging a ridiculous amount, but look at all of the bearaucracy that the government has put them through.

We have become a nation of "ask what the government can do for us", instead of, "ask not what your government can do for you, but what you can do for your government".
We should of taught people to fish, instead of giving them the fish.
This country now is full of people who want hand outs, instead of a hand up.

I guess in your world people would wait in bread lines and infant mortality would skyrocket. I guess in your world insurance companies wouldn't fuck anyone over if left to their own devices. You clearly only care about your own situation. What you forget about 80 years ago is that many doctors worked in their communities for FREE. Something you'd almost never see anymore. Health care is big business and giving something for "free" doesn't jive with that.
you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..

It doesn't fucking matter anymore anyway. We are ancient Rome. It's only a matter of time until the Goths and the Vandals sack out cities, rape our women and pillage our coffers. Hell, we've already let them in the gates!

And the real ironic thing is if you scan the crowd most of them appear to be of Medicare age so this single mom who works and can?t afford insurance is paying for their insurance.

No, Dr's worked for free because there was no money left, thanks to our US goverment here. You should look into early 20TH century american politics. Look at the institutions and comunities that pulled together.

They did not rely on the government, the government collapsed, don't you get it?. We are in the same position now, so if you want to really help people, then they have to be able to help themselves.

If the government happens to do a repete of what happened here in the 20'S, what the hell! will happen to the people do now?. They can't take care of themselves and rely on the government for everything.

There is a reason the Torries moved to the north.

Simple solution to the "health care crisis"

                                                    1) Open up to buying insurance over state lines
                                                    2) Make the option of health insurance contracts to be over 1 year long like term life.

Drives up competition and lowers cost without raising taxes or having the government be your daddy.

                                                          How about this:

Make it illegal for an insurance company to deny a claim without TONS of justification. If you're paying for coverage, then you should get that coverage.

Simple, it gives them a chance to side line it later on down the road..Regardless if it gets voted in, it's still not gonna happen. Both sides of govt get far too much pocket money from Big Business Insurance/Pharma cartels.. (yes they are cartels and people need to start looking at them like that)
