the governator made that decision to cut the budget. that's what happens when you let foreigners run shit, they have no attachment to the things that matter to the people that were born here. he has the audacity to remove Columbia State Park in N. Cal from the State Park status. it was one of the very first mining towns in California and is completely preserved. i grew up near there and it's an fn crime that he is able to do that. he claims it will be ok because the local businesses will still remain open. what a douche

This is the first I've heard about all of this. It's a crime to shut down any park, especially one like the one you speak of.
As much as I love my state I hate the majority voters here. They have always sucked. We should put up a proposition on the next ballot that says if you were not born here you can't vote.

When you are out of money and credit you have a few options... you can make more money, you can spend less money, or you can do both. Parks, for the most part, are not economical. Keep the ones that make money and pay for themselves, shutter the ones that don't for the time being. Emotions should pay little part in financial decisions.
You guys are out of options.

Don't worry most of those parks are/were turned over to the UN anyway. The foreign "charitable entities" they are awarded to will take over the running of them before long and be sure to charge you an even higher fee to enjoy their land. I think the excuse was "preservation."
Nice to see some accountability putting a hurt on folks. If you do not like it, then stop fighting tax hikes. It's pretty a pretty fucking simple solution. You do not get what you do not fund.

Who managed the land 1000s of years before taxes?

Indeed. However, if the local community wants the park to stay open, they should take over maintenance. It would most likely be cheaper plus it would impact them directly. State Parks are kind of out of hand. Somebody creates a park of some sort to look nice or whatever, and then they hand it over to the State to take care of... which costs money... it's kind of ridiculous. Add in the union benefits, union pay, and union restrictions of State employees... what a mess.

Yeah, just raise taxes that should do the trick. Why is it that most of the highest taxed states are the ones in the biggest problems?

Well, I think one of California's major problems is that with the recession they have had a huge loss of income for the state. They don't seem to have ever seen a program they didn't want to spend money on so every dollar and then some that comes in goes out and now that there is a lot less coming in they have issues.
You could also say that the heaviest taxed states are also the most populated states. The more people you have, the more problems you have.

One word, Vermont.
Are big governments so stupid they think everything will always keep growing? Please dont tell me thats true. It has been pure irresponsibility.

Because the people who in favor of raising taxes (the legislators) are in the pocket of the state workers unions - and every time there's a surplus, the government spends it by hiring more people to provide more services. Those people don't just go away - they are permanent payroll costs, and for the most part, union workers. So when the surplus is gone, and revenues are down --- surprise, something has to go, and so they have to cut things that shouldn't be cut because the state payroll has gotten out of hand and the surplus hasn't been saved for a rainy day.
our parks did not close, they just doubled the fee's. last time it was facing some closures the community got involved and helped raise the money needed to keep it staffed.

Park = expense
California = bankrupt
if those 2 obvious facts create what is a formula that is too complicated for you, then you need to be sterilized.

I'm not so sure what you mean by Vermont. I have no idea in what way it compares to California
Vermont - around 620,000 people
California - around 37 million
Do big governments thing everything will always keep growing? I would say yes they do. You need only look at just about any government budget to see that most of them assume that they will bring in as much or more tax revenue each year as they did the last and they budget accordingly.
Say what you want about Cali. Regardless of how fucked up our goverment is, in certain areas of the state we still have more hot women per sqauare mile than any place on planet Earth. Hell I can go to the grocerty store here and the woman are hotter than in the woman you find in clubs on the east coast.

yeah it must be a tiny % of people in CA that are natives. I know few who are.

You were mentioning that a higher population could also lead to higher taxes. Vermont has a pretty low population, yet fairly high taxes. New Jersey has a smaller population compared to other major states, around 9 million, and also has one of the higher tax rates.

Oh yes, let the minority rule. Maybe put up a proposition on the next ballot that says if you ride a Harley you can't vote. Makes just as much sense.

I guess what I meant wasn't so much the income tax level as all the other taxes that get thrown in. Like property tax, sales tax, taxes for public transportation, gas tax and who knows what else. I think when you add all those up the average person in a higher populated area ends up getting taxed higer. My thinking on this is because higher populated areas have a much larger number of people who are poor and they use up more government programs like welfare, food stamps, subsidized housing etc and they have to come up with new and creative ways to get that money.
I would bet that someone from a larger populated area that works a normal job and makes 50-55Ka year is ultimately taxed more than someone that lives in a lesser populated area and makes the same amount. I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule, but I would guess for the most part the average person in a bigger city/higher populated place ends up paying more of their money in taxes.
Texas has two thirds of the population of California and has low taxes as well.
So if your pay check was 2/3 of what it is now would say that's the same? I wouldn't. Also Texas allows itself to be polluted and fails to educate it's kids. Unless teaching about Jesus and how dinosaurs were on Noah's ark are considered education.

wow, i can't believe i was missing that before you said it *rolls eyes*
like all newly voted into office Governors of this state, Arnold was alloted a certain number of "recommendations" on new positions in our gov't. he hired more than 10 of his friends and gave them all titles and fat salaries. my beef is that the gov't should cut out those fat. lazy, made-up-job-title-havin, leeches and keep things worthwhile like the small pieces of history left in our state. and since i am mentioning unnecessary expenses, the biggest one that would save our state is the funding we give to the illegals. the welfare and the medical. stop paying for the aliens and the majority of the problem is solved.

Where do you come up with this stuff? It's nonstop. Do you take your meds or are they just not strong enough?

This is interesting. According to this the average person in texas makes about 17K a year less than the average person in California yet their percentage of income they pay in property taxes is actually higher than in cali and the percentage of the value of thier home they pay is about 3 times as much as in cali. So maybe they don't have such low taxes after all.
