exactly, + laser range finders are a direct result of the technology that came from this very experiment.
furthermore, the spreading of a beam of outgoing laser light as it interacted with, and reflected by, the moon's rough topography made ultra-precise distance determinations an impossibility.
thus the birth of laser ranging.
in its infancy, it required the corner mirrors.
