Scooby-Doo's latest Shaggy character has been hospitalised after sawing off his thumb.

Actor Nick Palatas, who plays Scooby-Doo's sidekick in the new TV movie Scooby Doo: The Mystery Begins, suffered the accident at his home in Northridge, California on Tuesday.

Medical staff at Northridge Hospital could not re-attach the digit, according to TMZ.com.
