more drug legalization today.

as it was posted last week that mexico decriminalized small amounts of assorted drugs from marijuana, heroin, cocaine, and lsd. now you can argentina to that list who just today their supreme court ruled that small amounts of marijuana are allowed as long as it does not hurt anyone else and your an adult.

Imagine the reduction of expenses each state would have. Less prisoners, court costs, police, probation officers, etc.

There are plenty of states in the US that have already decriminalized the use of marijuana.

Being caught with less than 1 oz in New York gets you a fine. And that's if the cop doesn't just take your shit smoke it himself while letting you go with a warning.

really do expect some college aged people, hippies in general, and some high schoolers to be making trips to mexico to literally have a trip. lsd has always been tricky to find if you did not know right people, so i do expect a few pilgrimages for it. also will be pretty funny since it would be so damn easy to bring back, mail back, you name it. actually would not be shocked if some turn it into a small cottage industry.

Why can't we just kill everyone who ever thought about trying non-pharmaceutical drugs?

Stop this movement now or we won't have as many people in jail!!!!

If they taxed marijuana here like they do tobacco, our deficit would be gone.

that is a pipe dream. the revenue would not even come close to paying the deficit. would barely put a dent in it and if you take both sides of the issue the taxes collected would be hard pressed to cover the money in circulation via employment, programs, and such thanks to it being illegal.
it being illegal it is a special interest cash cow. cities right now receive millions per year from the fed to combat drugs, primarily marijuana but others fall under its umbrella even though they represent a tiny fraction of the drugs. you also have school program, sheriff funding, after school programs, televised programs, parole officers, people within the court system, and the list goes on and on all thanks to pot.

the tax revenue itself it would naturally be a percentage on sales more than likely. i would guess they could have a cost associated with growing it as well, sort of like how those that make alcohol can get permits from the atf. im sure a good junk of people would just purchase the pot since growing it is time consuming and not foolproof. you would have to ask though or figure out if they could come up with price fixing or something which i am not sure would be legal. right now only real reason it costs as much as it does is because it is illegal for the most part (medical aside but they get price raped too) and that the dea actually prices the pot for the growers and dealers by setting values after raids and large busts. since if the dea say it has a street value of 4000 a pound, dealers may as well get that much since that is what they would be charged with if popped. if it became legal though, what is the motivation for keeping good marijuana at 40-60 for 4 grams?

LSD quality depends on the chemist, not the country the chemist works in.

No... I'm extremely pro-legalization.

The joke was, if we don't stop this movement, we won't have as many people in jail... I believe that it is near 70-80% of prison inmates are in for drug offenses. I don't want to pay to keep drug offenders in jail.

It is changing. By people doing the right thing... Stepping up and changing laws. It's legal in Denver to have an oz of weed. And Boulder now has like 6 medical marijuana dispensaries now.

It will have all seemed silly and lives lost in jail for nothing in a few years.

ah, well i think right now california where i live has to dump some 40k prisoners by september by law. guessing most of those will be non violent drug offenders near head of line.

Taking people who smoke weed in prison is silly. Making meth, heroin for personal use to be legal it's kinda crazy. Jail is not the right place for these people but i guess some place where they can rid of the addiction

why is it crazy?
i and anyone in the us could score meth, heroin, and cocaine super easy on the street with maybe cocaine being the hardest to find super quick. almost anyone can also score pot, coke, meth, and heroin inside of prison to boot.
making it legal for small quantities would not harm anyone. nobody is going to rush out and try it just because it is no longer a crime. those that do use it could be offered or sent into treatment if they become a nuisance or what not. nobody would be allowed to drive under the influence as there are already laws in place for that. same goes if someone neglected children due to laws. tried cooking meth themselves due to laws and the list goes on.
only thing it would do for certain is free up the courts and jails. would also allow for treatment instead of incarceration. would ensure clean drug usage as needle exchanges could not be fought or prevented in cities and i am sure much more.
of course i am sure it would become a state issue then which i always felts drug laws should be anyways. i just would not be to keen on states restricting it though cause we would be back were we are. so perhaps it would need to be fixed on a federal level.
