Every time I'm in the airport I always hope for such a thing to happen Once they made an announcement looking for volunteers, and I walked over to the counter, but the offer was for San Jose, CA instead of San Jose, Costa Rica

British Airways asked for people who wouldn't mind waiting an extra day, they gave me 250 pounds cash, hotel room and all the fricking food I wanted. Next day I asked if I could get bumped in biz class and they where very happy to do so. Needless to say it was way worth delaying my trip for 14 hours.

i did that in phoenix because i was hung over and they asked for volunteers, they gave me a free flight voucher. then when i went to use it i just got some bs "oh, we dont allow you to use it on that particular flight". not to mention i didn't get my luggage off the plane.

We always try to get bumped off. Been doing it for years.

We managed one spring break to get bumped 1 time on the way down and 3 times on the way back.

Paid for flights for the next few years.

US Airways years ago (pre-9/11) was famous for overbooking. While I was in college and traveling I would always volunteer my seats to get a free ticket. I had done this once and decided to use the free ticket I got. Well on that trip they needed someone to give up their seat, so I did. Got another free plane ticket, food and upgraded to first class.
