The ratings for True Blood’s second season premiere on Sunday are in — and they don’t suck.
According to HBO, the bloody good episode averaged 3.7 million viewers, making it the pay cabler’s most watched original program since the series finale of The Sopranos two years ago. What’s more, the opener was up a staggering 157 percent over the season 1 premiere, and 51 percent over last November’s season finale.
Those are numbers you can really sink your teeth into, right?

True Blood drew record ratings on Sunday night, pulling in 4.5 million viewers (11.4 million if you include DVR and HBO On Demand).

sorry the sopranos just started sucking all by themselves and by the last season it was full on male foot tapping in the bathroom stall sucking. i feel you on deadwood and do feel cheated by maybe 1 to 2 more seasons to of wrapped it up since we know how it ends historically. i feel the wire had a great run and was a great show.
no need to hate on trueblood though. i personally can not fucking stand several shows on the cable channels like entourage, the david duchovny one, hung, and a few others. have no issues that they are on though. i figure different tastes for different people.
one thing i never did get though is why some people get happy when a show they do not watch or hate gets cancelled like say friends for instance. i just do not watch them and choose one of the other 100 channels but others much show delight and get all giddy.Comment

The Wire wasn't canceled. Season 5 was the last season, that was a decision made by David Simon, the creator of the show. There will never be anything as good on cable or anywhere else. I agree True Blood is a piece of shit though....Adult Copywriters

Much as I hate this show, I must give credit to the dedication of the fan base. Anna Paquin sure made a good choice picking this franchise (Maybe if I were fucking her I could pretend I liked this show) and HBO is even marketing that fake gatorade blood shit (what a racket)
I just hope the geeky fangs don't get as popular as the spock ears with the trekies.
On a brighter note at least entourage has been a little better the last couple episodes.
And thank God for Mad Men and Dexter!

I would place a large wager that HBO did not cancel any of those shows to put True Blood on.
While I think The Wire is the seconded greatest tv show ever (behind West Wing), Deadwood was mehh and Sopranos needed to end, all of these shows has run their course.
