USB Port trouble

Im running Windows98 and switching on any USB device connected to the USB port causes a blue screen error, so I cant use any USB device. If I simply plugin a USB device without swiching it on, win98 detects it fine. But the moment I switch the hardware on, windows crashes. This problem wasnt there a couple of months back. This happens with my Canon Powershot G2 camera and a couple of other music USB devices.

I have tried reinstalling win98 over the existing files, and that did not help. Is there any solution besides a fresh reinstall of windows?

Update your bios (motherboard) and update your USB driver.
Both can be downloaded from the producer of your Motherboard

start > programs > accessories > system info should give you that info.
Try going to the website of your pc manufacturer and looking up your model too.
Windows update 'might' help - but don't count on it...

Say what you want about the Mac, but the Plug-and-Play we've had since 1984 beats anything MS has come up with since.

If you can install XP, I think it's worth the extra dough. It offers much better USB support. Of course, you may find XP doesn't support some other software you have....
