Love the Dead. Went to a few shows. Not sure that porn can withstand their model but then again they did not produce content and give it away for free. To do the "Grateful Dead" model in porn you'd have to sell tickets to your porn shoot and let the audience record it.

did not produce content? they allowed anyone with a tape recorder to bootleg an entire show with no issue. readily share the music with the only stipulation that you can not profit from the sharing.

They did produce it but did not give it away. They sold tickets to their show and let people record it. I'm sure if you can fill a venue with 15,000+ people at $29.95 a ticket any content producer would get up on stage and take that revenue and let anyone record the porn show and share it.

To do this type of model in porn you could start a solo girl site and give away most of the content for free. You build up a huge fan base then the girl goes on tour to do live shows in strip clubs or wherever and you charge a premium price for that. The problem with it would be finding enough people to pay for the live show to make it worth your while. It is easy to tell your wife you are going to Grateful Dead with some friends, hell, she might even go along and bring the kids. It isn't so easy when you want to tell her you are paying $75 to see your favorite porn star dance and fuck herself with a toy on stage.

While music and porn have a lot of things in common when it comes to marketing, music always has the live show and touring where they can make some serious money and in those areas they just don't compare.
