Would you give a gift of a nice wine if it had a screw top?
My girl wanted to give a bottle of wine to a friend as a gift. She picked out a bottle at a discount wine shop that was $30. I told her to pick a bottle with a cork even if it is not as good of a wine.
There seem to be more and more quality wines that are using screw tops. Is it silly to insist on a cork for a gift bottle? I think it makes the bottle look cheap. |

While she's at it, if her friend is a guy, she should get him a clip-on tie.
In other words, I agree with your sentiments...screw cap for a bottle of wine almost turns it into beer IMO.

Sure, tell them about the screw caps if they don't already know. Gives you something interesting to talk about along with the gift.

Depends, are they people who are wine drinkers. Regular wine drinkers would prefer a better wine, so cork or screw cap, it doesn't matter. If they really don't drink wine often, only for special occasions, i'd bring one with a cork.
I myself, don't care either way. If it's good wine, it's good wine. Would you really want to disappoint with a lesser tasting wine, I would think that is much worse. |

Post the name of this $30 screw top wine.
I know screw top wines are slowly creeping into the fine wine categories, especially after the lead coated foil issue became public, but I thought many of the producers switched to a wax seal. ADG |
